A hugely inspiring evening at the Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT)’s event at The Bradfield Centre, hosted by Mantle Space Ltd (with some excellent canapés!). The evening brought together the property community to learn about the new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital taking shape at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Hearing directly from two surgeons at the frontline of cancer treatment was both eye-opening and impactful. Their perspective on Cambridge as a hub for ground-breaking innovation was clear: when the right minds come together, spanning medicine, data, tech, engineering, and mathematics, the speed of progress in treatment and research accelerates. This hospital will not only provide state-of-the-art care in a nurturing environment but also drive cutting-edge research to benefit future generations. With 1 in 2 of us facing cancer at some point in our lives, early detection is key: "Find early, treat better." As the Chancellor unveiled new plans to deliver the 'Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor', said to boost the UK economy by up to £78 billion by 2035, Tim Deacon, Managing Director at Turnstone Estates, says questions remain on the revival of the Ox-Cam Arc initiative.   “The new government has revived the Ox-Cam Arc initiative, which had been gathering dust on the policy shelf for several years. This time, the approach signals a clear intent, with a top-down focus on housing delivery targets. The distribution of new housing will largely follow existing and committed infrastructure - most notably, East West Rail.   “However, a key question remains: where will new life science and R&D clusters be located in a way that is both viable and deliverable? This is particularly pressing given the substantial post-Covid development pipeline supply already underway at both ends of the Arc. To ensure long-term success, careful thought must be given to the spatial relationship between any new employment cluster and housing, whilst also maintaining the critical proximity to either Oxford or Cambridge.   “All eyes are now on the next steps in shaping a coherent regional strategy. With funding for the relocation of the train station also agreed and its delivery scheduled for 2027, we can ensure that sustainable infrastructure is in place for the residents of the Eastern side of Waterbeach New Town from day one. News: Planning permission secured for 4,500 homes at Waterbeach New Town East.   We are pleased to share that South Cambridgeshire District Council has today issued formal planning permission to the Waterbeach Development Company (WDC) for 4,500 homes to be built at Waterbeach New Town East.   The planning permission allows WDC - a joint venture between Turnstone Estates, Royal London Asset Management and Aquila Investments Limited - to move into the delivery phase which includes the relocation of the existing Waterbeach Station to a location one mile north, in the New Town East site.   Read the news in full here: https://lnkd.in/ejtw64JQ   #WaterbeachNewTownEast #NewHomes #PlanningPermission #SouthCambs

Small acts of kindness can have a big collective impact. Tim and Yvette donated hampers to Cambridge City Foodbank this week as part of its Christmas Hamper Appeal for those in need locally. The foodbank is aiming for 700 hampers in total and we hope to hear soon if they've achieved that amazing number. The Foodbank is experiencing a "drastic increase in need" - 2024 is its busiest year since it was founded 14 years ago.
