At the New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA) Annual Meeting this week, Dr. zhenqi cai, a principal project manager on our tunnels team, co-presented with ALCOSAN's Dan Sharek on hydraulic and constructability design considerations for combined sewer overflow (CSO) tunnels. Zhenqi and Dan introduced the first of three deep CSO tunnels in Pittsburgh — the Ohio River Tunnel (ORT) — as part of ALCOSAN’s Clean Water Plan. They provided key insights on planning and design considerations of the critical near surface CSO flow diversion and control regulators, outfalls, and deep flow drop shafts. We are thankful for the opportunity to discuss our expertise and are proud to support ALCOSAN in reducing wet weather overflows to improve water quality for #Pittsburgh communities. 💧 Learn more about the Ohio River Tunnel project: https://mottm.ac/4hO6xcB. #WaterEngineering #CSOTunnels #Wastewater #BrilliantPeople

How the fast-advancing low-carbon technology behind heat networks can deliver a large proportion of the UK’s heating needs, is an issue that Jonathon Monkcom, our divisional net zero carbon lead, explains in an article in Construction Management magazine. Up until now, heating in the UK has often been an isolated affair with each building containing its own plant and equipment to solely meet the needs of its occupants and processes. Under this current approach, each building must find a way of meeting its individual net zero carbon-based needs. In the article, Jonathan explains the benefits of multiple building owners joining forces to use heat networks and how new technology is making this more viable, gaining greater carbon savings as a collective. When combined with new innovations, the building’s sector improved analytical skills and a better understanding of energy conservation, the potential expands significantly. To find out more about the work we are undertaking on heat networks, read the full article here: https://mottm.ac/3Q6uQ9O
