🩵💛 "It's bittersweet to say goodbye to our longstanding trustees Annie MacIver, Liam McLaughlin and Matthew Corner, who've given years of dedication, passion and expertise to Tutors United, at a really formative time for our small charity. I'm hugely grateful for their personal support and their outstanding leadership of our impact, finance and overall Board respectively. We will miss them hugely but are also excited to have new skills and experiences in the TU family, with four new trustees appointed this summer!" – Amy Whitelock Gibbs, CEO of Tutors United

Enabling every child to succeed.
About us
We want a world where income doesn't affect education. So we're on a mission to use the power of tutoring to smash the barriers in learning and enable every child to succeed. Founded in 2013, Tutors United is an award-winning national charity that uses the power of tutoring to support young people’s attainment, confidence, and skills at two key transition points: from primary to secondary school, and from university to employment.

🔢🔡 Although we ran a shortened 14-week programme this year, together with Peabody, we are proud to say that Pembury pupils have still made incredible progress in both Maths and English. The programme has boosted the attainment and confidence of ten Year 6 pupils, half of whom rejoined us from the previous year, ahead of them entering secondary school in September. 100% of pupils either agreeing or strongly agreeing that they feel prepared for this next step. 🌳 This programme has and continues to be a testament to the power of community-based working. Peabody staff’s existing relationships with residents, local groups and schools enables us to widen our reach and ensure that we are meeting those families who need the programme most. 🙌 We’d like to thank Lorraine and the staff at the Pembury Community Centre for their continued support in running this year’s programme and for contributing towards its impressive outcomes.

🎉 We’re thrilled to have delivered our first ever daily tuition through the 2023-24 programme with One Housing, part of Riverside, supporting 136 pupils and their families, while providing paid work experience and training to 23 tutors. 📍The programme saw us both return to established hubs in East London as well as provide new support to families on the Isle of Dogs. We also set up our first ever Monday to Friday provision, giving them the flexibility to access tuition on whichever day worked best for them, with our online hubs. 🗓️ We’re so pleased to see our longstanding delivery partnership go from strength to strength, continuing into 2024-25 with Riverside, so together we can grow our impact. 🩵💛 A huge thank you to the teams at One Housing and Riverside, especially Kimberley Wadham-Castles, John McCormack, Brooke Kopstale, Amma Nkrumah, and Rohul Miah for their ongoing support and enthusiasm for this programme. We can’t wait to reach even more families in the new academic year.

⭐️ This year's partnership with Metropolitan Thames Valley has been a remarkable journey of innovation. We are thrilled to have introduced exciting new programme features, such as the Classroom Assistant role and the Subject Masterclasses. MTVH's commitment to expanding their impact and their trust in our ability to innovate have been invaluable. Collaborating with MTVH to design and test these new initiatives has been a rewarding experience. Other housing associations are now keen to adopt these new features too, helping TU grow our impact further. 🩵💛 We extend our thanks to Emildah Chabata and Yvonne Pick, who played crucial roles in driving innovation and challenging us. We also appreciate the support of Syreta H., Ada Seijas, Shefali Khan, Eleanor, Rosalyn and Theresa Agyeman in the delivery of this programme. 🙌 Here's to another incredible year of innovation and partnership with MTVH!

🥳 Emma Hain joins Tutors United as our Tutor Coordinator! She is the first point of call for our fabulous tutors, ensuring they are fully supported in their role and development. 🎓 Before joining the TU team, Emma graduated in June 2024 with a first class degree in Theology, Religion, and the Philosophy of Religion at the University of Cambridge. Introducing another of our new trustees, Emily Kell is Head of Programmes at The Diana Award, where she oversees the design, delivery and operations of anti-bullying and online safety initiatives. We are so happy to have her join our board. After tutoring young people from low socio-economic backgrounds throughout university, Emily went on to establish a free tutoring programme for primary and secondary school pupils from low-income households in Cambridge to develop key skills and confidence in English and Maths. This kick-started a lifelong commitment to achieving positive change for young people; today, Emily is a senior leader in the not-for-profit sector and has over a decade of experience managing broad portfolios of high-quality youth programmes. Since 2020, Emily has been a trustee at The Kite Trust, a charity supporting LGBTQ+ young people in Cambridgeshire. Emily has been a Scout Leader for over 10 years and currently volunteers with Young Women's Trust, providing CV feedback and speaking at events to support marginalised young women into employment. Emily is motivated to empower others to gain the skills, confidence and knowledge to achieve their potential.
