I don’t think I’ve ever hosted a panel that has moved me more…. Last week, I hosted an open panel discussion with 6 amazing humans from North Highland for World Mental Health Day. And to say I was inspired just doesn’t give it justice…. Each and every panelist showed incredible bravery, openness and authenticity to share their stories around experiences with mental health. From personal journeys, to supporting others around them, to how the company have supported them. To hear someone that you work alongside every single day, open up about struggles that you may have never known about is incredibly moving. In a world where we are so cautious to speak about our mental health in the workplace, these 6 legends stood tall for the benefit of their peers. In a world where we so often feel like a number, North Highland are working to make you feel human. Huge kudos to you all, and to Jade Foster & Freya Hansen for organising. #MentalHealth #TimeToTalk

Continuing our momentum towards #WorldMentalHealthDay, I visited Red Brick Road last week to talk to them about turning awareness into action. Thank you all for being so receptive and welcoming! ————————————————- A big part of our drive at Two Pints Deep is increasing accessibility to support and providing more 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 in your mental health journey. There is no one size fits all in suicide prevention. One community or one support group may not suit your current lifestyle or structure, so we need to know what options we have. So people know where they can go, when they feel low. So we don’t only speak about our work at Two Pints Deep…. In last weeks presentation, we spoke about the amazing work from #ANDYSMANCLUB, UK Men's Sheds Association & Men Walking and Talking among others, signposting the staff to their local groups. Working together, we can #AttackTheStat

Let’s talk about last week… At the end of last week, I spent 3 days with National Grid at their Stoke-on-Trent depot, talking at their annual safety conference. It was possibly the highlight of my speaking experiences so far. Studies show that 40% of workers in construction and engineering industries take time off due to poor mental health, and 57% of those cite different reasons for their absence. This shows how much stigmas still affect those within this male dominated industry. Speaking on each day to a different cohort of engineers was brilliant and the response, even better. I opened up about my journey with Two Pints Deep my struggles & my ongoing problems - which was made a lot easier by the welcoming people that made up this depot. I spoke to people worried about friends, those who had previously suffered behind closed doors, those who continue to suffer. I also spoke to those that had utilised some of our small actions to successfully speak to others about their mental health. We don’t ask you to change everything, we ask you to change one thing and start from there. Thank you for inviting me in National Grid, Amanda Williams & Tom Gordon. Hope to see you all again soon! #AttackTheStat #TimeToTalk #SuicidePrevention

Thank you Luke Barrow from Two Pints Deep, a men’s mental health community focused on suicide prevention, for a fantastic talk ahead of World Mental Health Day next week. We learnt about the triggers, signs, and symptoms of poor mental health in colleagues, friends, and ourselves. More importantly, we learnt how to spot them and how to try and create a comfortable scenario for people to be able talk. World Mental Health Day is on October 10th and we’re committed to helping raise awareness. You can help get involved here too - https://lnkd.in/dSxu45e https://lnkd.in/egcVrr5w #mentalhealth #awareness #worldmentalhealthday

After a few weeks of self-doubt, today I received the ultimate reassurance in why I do what I do. This week I am spending 3 days with National Grid in their Stoke-on-Trent depot, presenting to all of their staff our 'Turning Awareness into Action' seminar with Two Pints Deep, to round off Suicide Prevention Month. As part of the presentation, I run through the importance of the ‘small stuff’ in suicide prevention and involve an exercise where I ask you to pull out your phones. Then I ask you to text a mate who you haven't spoken to in a while or has been going through a tough time, and ask them how they are. Simple. The purpose? You never know what your mates are going through, this may be the text that they need and you may never know how much they need it. The result? Following the presentation, a man approached me and gave me a big hug. With tears in his eyes, he showed me his phone. His mate had been struggling and this was the right text, at the right time. He texted explaining that this had been going on for a little while now. They have organised to meet up tonight. To share a hug, and to have a chat. So please take this post as a reminder that what may take you seconds, could lead to keeping someone here for years. #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealth #AttackTheStat

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ENGLAND GETTING KANED BY FINLAND 🇫🇮 Today, England play Finland in the Nations League at Wembley. Don’t get us wrong, we live & breathe the 3 Lions but todays match highlights some stats that go a little bit deeper than corners, possession and goals scored. It strikes us as poignant that ENG v FIN coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day. Whilst England may be favourites off the field, the stats show we’re nowhere near Finnish yet. Whilst our suicide rates creep up, Finland have managed to halve theirs from being one of the highest in the world. It shows us that progress can be made in what often seems like an uphill battle. We’re not Finnish yet, we’re just getting started. More info on how Finland have managed to reduce their rates included in our post match analysis. For now, enjoy the game and check in on your mate whilst watching tonight to make sure we start to defy the odds. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #ENGFIN #AttackTheStat #TimeToTalk #MentalHealth #MensMentalHealth #SuicidePrevention
