💛 It was wonderful to catch up with local leaders and cabinet members from across the UK100 network at the Liberal Democrats conference in Brighton over the weekend — and it was a pleasure to be asked by Green Liberal Democrats to speak at their panel.

Thank you to all those councils & stakeholders who joined us this afternoon for our 'Navigating the Net Zero Energy Transition' toolkit launch in partnership with UK Power Networks' DSO. Our CEO Christopher Hammond commented after the launch: “Local authorities and the communities they serve will be at the heart of the next stage of the transition to a net-zero energy system. Working in partnership with UK Power Networks, we are equipping them with the tools and ideas to shape their response to this change. “Developing a comprehensive Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP) is a foundational step. It will enable them to play a bigger role in supporting the local rollout of everything from EV charging to Community Energy. But too many don't know where to start. We hope to help councils unlock their clean energy ambitions with this toolkit.” You can now download a copy of the toolkit here: https://t.co/SL678oVbU7 Huge thanks to the brilliant team from the UK Power Networks' DSO who partnered with us on this energy toolkit. Their network covers London, Eastern and Southern England and you can find out more about the work of the DSO, contact the dedicated team and access their targeted resources here: https://lnkd.in/eSTAzMKH You can also sign up to their LinkedIn newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/enR5U_yk For details of other DNO/DSOs across the country please visit: https://lnkd.in/emYh-daR

Today, we are a big go with the 2024 Climate Leadership Academy First Weekend in Manchester. A big welcome from our CEO Christopher Hammond to all 20 of our local climate leaders as they start this year's programme. Today, we'll hear from experts in local delivery, energy & misinformation. It was wonderful to be joined by Bev Craig who gave us a proper welcome to Manchester and hear from her about UK100 member: Manchester City Council's climate science based plan, which started in 2009 and has seen a 65% reduction in the council's emissions by 2023; as well as importance of action on energy, devolution and the need for climate engagement, courage and ambition. We were also joined by another North West climate leader: Cllr Abdul Jabbar, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council & Cabinet Member for Value for Money and Sustainability, who also took part in the CLA programme in 2023. He talked about why climate change matters to him, the global context, devolution, importance of finance, saving money, new partnerships and working with local businesses as well as a long term vision. Also the ambition of further work with Greater Manchester Combined Authority, the Mayor Andy Burnham and the new Government to deliver more on climate action and social justice.
