Mukhamadjon, a former kickboxing champion, was stateless for the first 28 years of his life in Uzbekistan. Without a nationality, he was invisible in the eyes of the law. Born just before the Soviet Union's collapse, he missed the deadline for citizenship despite calling Uzbekistan home. His statelessness cost him the chance to compete internationally and represent his country. But in 2020, Uzbekistan adopted a new law that granted citizenship to thousands of stateless people, including Mukhamadjon. Although his competitive years are over, he now coaches the next generation of martial artists, fulfilling his dream in a new way. #EndStatelessness #Citizenship

It's due to war. It's due to disasters. It's due to persecution. It's due to human rights violations. It's almost always the last resort. It's always a human right to seek asylum, for all 122 million who were #ForcedToFlee their homes. 🔗 https://buff.ly/4f0gSBc #Displacement #UNHCR

This week marks 1 year since launching UK for UNHCR’s Emergency Fund. With new emergencies occurring at an alarming rate – an average of 40 emergencies a year over the last three years – and a failure to resolve existing conflicts, the need for adaptable, sustainable funding is more vital than ever. Flexible funding, channelled by UK for UNHCR’s Emergency Fund, helps UNHCR to remain agile and be the first on the ground – if not already there – and last to leave when crisis hits. Click through to see 5 silent emergencies where generous support for the Emergency Fund is helping UNHCR to make an impact. If you have any questions or would like to discuss how the Emergency Fund can meet your philanthropic goals, please get in touch : emergencyfund@unrefugees.org.uk #WithRefugees #Philanthropy

“All of my family, my friends, all of them are now refugees in different countries.” Eman, her family and her friends were forced to flee Sudan in 2021 due to the escalating conflict. Prior to fleeing, she worked as an architect, urban planner and university lecturer, but when she arrived in the UK she found herself in limbo as an asylum seeker as she wasn’t allowed to work. Now, in a new country, Eman is rebuilding her life, re-training in architecture and urban planning, and learning new skills. She hopes to one day return to Sudan to rebuild when it’s safe.
