A community connecting 1 billion unconnected people to the internet to bridge the digital divide.
About us
We are a passionate community dedicated to connecting 1 billion unconnected people to the internet. Our primary focus is on bridging the digital divide and enabling an inclusive ecosystem that reaches the 2.9 billion individuals who remain unconnected. We firmly believe that the digital divide widens inequality, hampers development, and undermines long-term sustainability. To address these challenges, we run a variety of projects on a global scale, making a tangible impact on people's lives. Our initiatives are designed to support vital aspects such as education, commerce, jobs, safety, and health. You can actively contribute as a partner, donor, ambassador, or supporter, amplifying the reach and impact of our efforts. Together, we can foster a more connected and equal world, where everyone has access to the opportunities that the internet brings. Stay updated on our latest projects, collaborations, and success stories. Let's build a future where connectivity is universal, empowering individuals and communities worldwide.

We are excited to share a video this Friday showcasing one of our most rural deployments yet—connecting communities along the Amazon River in Colombia to the internet! In collaboration with Fundación Etnollano and sponsored by 48percent.org, we’ve been able to bring the power of connectivity to these remote areas. Watching these communities come online and witnessing the impact has been nothing short of amazing. From education to healthcare to local commerce, the internet is opening doors to so many opportunities. 📚💻 We’re incredibly proud of this achievement and are excited to expand this project to even more communities. 🌱 Check out the video and see for yourself how life-changing this connectivity has been for these communities! We can’t wait to see what the future holds as we continue to bring the unconnected, connected. 🙌 A special thank you goes out to: Arnoud Oosten Theresa Haans Alvaro Bermudez Merizalde Camila Pacheco Bejarano Andrew Atkinson Mea Thompson and all other involved in this project! In rural Malaysia, where nature meets tradition, remote communities often face challenges in accessing reliable internet. In Sabah for instance, thousands of undocumented and stateless children are denied education and basic rights. For these children, the lack of connectivity only deepens their isolation. Through our partnerships and advancements in technology, remote and underserved communities in Malaysia can now connect to high-speed internet opening doors to a better future. Thanks to this program, 800 children in Sabah now have access to the internet for the first time. The journey is far from over. Together, we can reach even more communities and continue bridging the digital divide. The internet is not just transforming the classroom - it is also helping teachers develop vocational skills and start small businesses. With every new connection, we bring more communities into the digital age. Together, let's empower our next generation. One connection at a time. Join us in building a more connected future. Yesterday, together with Mastercard and African Development Bank Group we were showcasing Mobilizing Access to the Digital Economy (MADE) innovative approach to public-private partnerships at the United Nations General Assembly Week. In just four months since its inception, MADE has already made significant strides in Africa: 🌐 Providing internet connectivity and digital skilling for farmer cooperatives in Kenya 🚜 Unlocking affordable digital financial services for sunflower farmers in Tanzania 🔋 Enabling clean energy asset financing for farmers in Kenya 🛒 Facilitating access to markets via Community Pass As part of this powerful alliance, our CSO Peter Macnee joined the MADE Steering Committee meeting to celebrate the launch of the Tanzania and Kenya Country Chapters alongside an impressive lineup of partners, including CRDB Bank Plc, Equity Bank Limited, Heifer International, Microsoft, Shell Foundation, and many more. Digital inclusion is more than a goal; it's a necessity for driving financial inclusion and empowering communities. At unconnected.org, we’re committed to scaling MADE’s vision of a connected, inclusive digital economy that leaves no one behind. Yesterday, Mastercard and the African Development Bank Group (AfBD) officially kicked off United Nations General Assembly Week with our partners in the Mobilizing Access to the Digital Economy (MADE) Alliance: Africa. MADE offers a new approach to public private partnerships – one that is private sector led and thus commercially sustainable by design. In the four months since the initial announcement, MADE Co-Chairs Mastercard and AfDB have been able to crowd partner resources and quickly go to market. MADE’s deployed programs include unlocking affordable digital financial services for sunflower farmers in Tanzania, internet connectivity and digital skilling for farmer cooperatives in Kenya, clean energy asset financing for farmers in Kenya, and access to markets via Community Pass. Mastercard hosted the inaugural MADE Steering Committee meeting to review progress to date and discuss open challenges and required support to scale MADE programming. We also spent the afternoon celebrating the launch of the Tanzania and Kenya Country Chapters with CRDB Bank Plc, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, Equity Bank Limited, Government of Tanzania, Heifer International, International Trade Administration, Kenya National Farmers’ Federation, Microsoft, Shell Foundation, Sustainable Agriculture Foundation, Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania to US, unconnected.org, Yara International . Digital inclusion is a precursor to financial inclusion, and MADE is committed to moving fast to bring people into the digital economy to thrive. Exciting News from Our Partnership with Informa Tech MVNO Community. At this year's #MVNOsWorldCongress, our Co-founder Mea Thompson was speaking about the urgent need for global digital inclusion. The response from the community was incredible. Together, we raised money to connect yet another community in Malawi. These donations was made towards our #AdoptASchool program. We’re not just giving them access; we’re creating new opportunities for students and teachers to learn, grow, and thrive. The need to bridge the digital divide has never been more critical, and your support is helping us do just that. The adopt a school program is following our projects where we catalyze ISPs in rural underserved regions to enable the schools with free connectivity. In Kenya, vast distances and limited infrastructure make access to reliable internet a challenge. For teachers, students and entrepreneurs in Kenya, this lack of internet access means limited opportunities and isolation from the digital world. Thanks to our partnerhsips, remote regions of Kenya are now gaining access to high-speed internet. Connectivity doesn't just change education, it uplifts and strengthens entire communities. By passing on the connectivity management to local entrepreneurs within these communities we are creating sustainable solutions.
