British Government serves up a "double whammy" for university students ! More money for universities but who is shouldering the burden and what about student outcomes ? In the nick of time for some Vice Chancellors, the government have agreed to increase the cost of university tuition fees from April 2025. What a vital move. These institutions educate our doctors, our engineers , our economists, our software developers and many more strategically important roles, supplying the future workforce of the UK. But, I am confused. Bridget Phillipson, the Education Secretary, writing in the Times today said "I am prepared to grasp the nettle to bring stability to university finances........" Anyone, would be forgiven for thinking that the government were about to chip off a chunk and distribute some of the £40billion of tax raised in last weeks budget and subsidise these strategically vital institutions. But NO, the government do not need to reach for a dock leaf because the so called nettle , is being passed on directly to students. They, not the government will carry the burden of this bold move to "bring stability to university finances....". So, if we are to increase the burden of debt on the students , let's create an economic environment in which there are improved opportunities for jobs and therefore improved likelihood of good student outcomes for the debt burden they are shouldering. But, there's a problem ! Rt Hon Rachel Reeves in the meantime has increased Employers National Insurance contribution. This will reduce the number of job opportunities available to studying students and to Graduates. So, it's a double whammy for the future workforce of the UK - More debt and less prospects ! In the same article she goes on to say "The sector must make greater efforts to improve access for disadvantaged students........Universities must show to students that their courses deliver value for money in student experiences' " In other words, keep your Marketing machines working overtime. BUT what about the scrutiny on outcomes: How are courses being developed to meet business needs ? What are Careers services doing to make sure their students land jobs? What are the government doing to help students find jobs to apply for ? Clearly there are a number of other nettles that need to be grasped. However, I ask that these nettles are not also passed onto our students ! #university #ukuniversities #theeducationsecretary #thechancelloroftheexchequer #ukbusiness #instituteofstudentemployers #studentloans #emergingtalent #recruitment #jobsforemergingtalent #debt #studentdebt #nettles #ukgovernment #thetimes #thetimesnewspaper #rachelreeves #bridgetphillipson #emergingtalent #universitytalent #ukbusiness #ukeconomy #jobs #ENI #employersnationalinsurance #economy #costofeducation #skills #digitalskills #careers #studenttalent #unibeez #officeforstudents #vicechancellor

Fascinating roundtable discussion this morning chaired by Emma Jones CEO of Enterprise Nation. The subject matter was "How the government and the private sector can work together to connect talented candidates to small businesses - Delivered in partnership with Unibeez, Employment Hero and Indeed. The discussion, marked the launch of the Enterprise Nation Talent Hub , which looks to support and connect SME's with talent to help grow their businesses. For our part, Unibeez will bring access to emerging talent , which offers SME's motivated, ambitious, flexible, digital natives at a cost effective price point allowing them to compete with Corporate and Enterprise businesses in the battle to secure the best talent. We strongly believe our candidates are the future workforce or the "new workforce" of the UK who offer a viable alternative to the so called "lost workforce" and will really help to drive growth in the economy. The event was well attended by representatives from both the government and the private sector , including; Emma Jones, Daniel Woolf, Matt Williams from Enterprise Nation, Erica Chamberlain from The Careers & Enterprise Company, Chris Keenan, James Parsons from Unibeez, Euan Carlile from Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Kevin Fitzgerald FCCA, John Carroll from Employment Hero, Garreth Hayes from Indeed and Neil Potts from Silverwood Rose. Much was discussed and will be released in a white paper in the next week or so. Here is a Press Release relating to the launch of the Enterprise Nation Talent Hub and it's delivery partners. https://lnkd.in/ef8NuXMx #enterprisenation #talenthub #SMES #futureworkforce #ukeconomy #recruitment #employmenthero #indeed #unibeez #studenttalent #emergingtalent #smallbusinesses #Departmentforbusinessandtrade #Departmentforeducation #Departmentforworkandpensions #getbritainworking #newworkforce #economicgrowth

Universities are facing a cash catastrophe …… This is worrying times for all Vice-Chancellors at every University in the UK and yes the new Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson must do everything in her power to avert this crises . But , whatever the solution , she must look very closely at the services the Universities are supplying to its customers i.e. the Students to make sure they are receiving value for money in a way that will help to maintain sustainable longevity of the University infra-structure in the UK . For too long now , we have known that there is a gulf between academic degrees and the skills needed in todays labour market . Leaving the student debt crises to one side, I speak to students day in and day out who do not have a clue about what career they want to pursue or how to go about it when they graduate. I believe it is incumbent on the new government with whatever re-structuring takes place, to insist that every degree course has a module specific to “skills and career development” . We know that employability is now one of the leading criteria that prospective students ( especially those from overseas) research about Universities and I believe that systemic solutions based on career development and skills must be taught. At Unibeez we’re doing our bit by building the fastest growing network of emerging talent in the UK and making students visible to the labour market. This network is accessible to businesses who need digital skills today .We are also about to launch the Unibeez Skills Academy. The benefit of our platform is two fold ; 1. It brings efficiencies to the labour market by supplying candidates with the digital skills that businesses need . 2. Improves the employability status of our future workforce where Universities and Colleges are failing . My suggestion to Bridget Phillipson the Education Secretary and Jacqui Smith the Skills Minister is to include "career and skills development” as a mandatory module in every degree curriculum . #emergingtalent #students #skills #digitalskills #valueformoney #universitiesuk #UCU #bridgetphillipson #jacquismith #ukeceonomy #recruitment #education #careers #careerdevelopment #vicechancellors #ukgovernment

"Klopps kids" do it again ! What better illustration of the true value that Emerging Talent can bring to any business, than this ? Having beaten Chelsea to win the Carabao cup, Klopps Liverpool team of mainly academy players then went on to beat Southampton 3-0 in the FA cup to line up a next round tie with Manchester United. While the youngest player was only 16, two of the goal scorers were only 18 and one of them Jayden Danns who scored twice picked up the Man of The Match award! Not only do these results have a financial benefit for the club , but they build huge team spirit and confidence throughout. Yes, Klopps hand was forced to use Emerging Talent due to injuries, but many businesses are now looking at Emerging Talent to help them to build up depleted teams and plug their skills gaps . The benefits to the club and the youngsters were clear to see ⚽ Before the opportunity the players were; Inexperienced Untested Future assets 🎖 What they brought to the game was; Energy Optimism Innovation Lack of fear Skills 🏆 After the opportunity the players had Experience Belief Success Reward Klopp is not the first to benefit from putting his faith in Emerging Talent - the great Sir Alex Ferguson once said "The best teams have a blend of youth and experience. Young players can surprise you with their fresh thinking and hunger to win." If you would like to build up the Emerging Talent in your business you can find it here Unibeez or drop me a DM. https://lnkd.in/evG_XWV4 #jurgenklopp #kloppskids #liverpoolfc #liverpoolacademy #emergingtalent #innovation #legacy #ukeceonmy #leadership #futureplanning #jobs #recruitment #GenZ #futureofwork #unibeez #siralexferguson #bbcsport #opportunity

An excellent and detailed report from Goldman Sachs giving an optimistic outlook for British business prospects IF they can be unlocked. However, it's a big if and there is work to be done ! Of the 10,000 small business respondents in the report, more than half (55%) say they are "unable to find the talent they need" and only 12% believe the education system is equipping young people for the future of work. This comes as no surprise and reflects the conversations we are having with our clients who are using the Unibeez platform to find the hard to reach talent they so desperately need. I would say to UK businesses, there is great talent out there but you must look for it in different ways . Digital transformation has changed the way the world works forever and that includes talent attraction and retention. Less than 10% of University graduates apply for and land graduate roles. This leaves a long tail of 90% of all graduates still to be discovered - what an unbelievable resource to be mined ! We also know that Gen-Z need to respect your business to be attracted to it. We are now advising businesses that investment in Employer Brand is as important , if not more so, than investment in Brand Marketing. If candidates don't know who you are, what you do and what you stand for they won't be enticed to work for you. This report highlights the opportunities for British businesses even in the current climate. One of the key areas to crystalise these opportunities is access to skilled talent. This will require investment in skills, patience and a change from traditional recruitment methods. This is a clear message from British businesses to the British Government and they must must act fast if they are serious about helping businesses and wish to reap the potential rewards of an economic recovery . #ukeconomy #talent #recruitment #employerbrand #genz #futureofwork #10ksb #goldmansachs #charlottekeenan #generationgrowth #goldman #thesmallbusinessmanifesto #1000smallbusinesses #ukuniversities #digitaltalent #recruitment #innovation #futurism #smes #smefinance #investment #skills #technology #education #rishisunak #jeremyhunt #kevinhollinrake

We are told that there are more than 900,000 job vacancies currently in the UK economy It is reported in the Telegraph that frustrated businesses are looking abroad to try and fill the gap . The number of businesses registered to sponsor visas has doubled since 2021 to 76,310. But is a big part of the problem here about patience and investment ? Businesses want candidates to be "oven ready" with X years of experience ! Surely the way to solve the problem is to embrace the exceptional talent we do have in this country educated in one of, if not THE best Further and Higher education systems in the world. I have no issue with foreign talent, I believe it brings diversity and innovation to our economy , but we need to invest in our homegrown talent to make a strong workforce for the future ! Invest in Skills - Training for all Invest in Time to find homegrown talent - embrace Open Talent Platforms Invest in the Future workforce of the UK - salaries that inspire Invest in the Future of work - working flexibility, strong leadership and inspirational culture I do not believe that we have a labour/ skills shortage in the UK , but I do believe that the UK economy is not creating realistic opportunities for a labour force which has evolved due to the revolution of digital transformation and the cost of living crises. #investment #skills #emergingtalent #ukuniversities #ukcolleges #people #ukeconomy #uktalent #competitiveadvantage #recruitment #levelingup #ukgovernment #ukbusiness #futureworkforce #futureofwork #digitaltransformation #dailytelegraph #timwallace #melissalawford
