UD is a London-based music organisation bringing communities together around Black music and Black music culture.
About us
With over 20 years of experience in nurturing and supporting Black and culturally diverse artists when they need it most, UD acts as a bridge between burgeoning talent and the music industry. At UD, we are passionate about excellence, and the potential for excellence in every young person we encounter. Aligning professionalism and business acumen with an understanding of youth and subculture, we run industry-led events, artist development and employment support programmes. Those that have come through our doors can now be found working at institutions including Island Records, Nike, Rinse FM, GRM Daily, Beats and SBTV. Artists we have helped and showcased at early stages of their career include Wretch32, Little Simz, Ghetts, Andreya Triana, Maverick Sabre, Devlin, Labrinth, Skepta and Paigey Cakey. Since 2000, when UD was co-founded by a group of hip-hop artists, we have understood that young people need the resources and space to create and explore their potential; UD works for a world where young people who make and love Black Music, are recognised as equal to any excellent creative individuals, and are celebrated and supported as such. Whether they’re on their first steps into music, just breaking into notoriously competitive creative environments, or about to make it big, we provide the tools they need: Excellence, confidence, structure, opportunity and networks. United in development, UD stands for you.

Today we announced the full line-up for this year’s UD Industry Takeover #IT2024, featuring a host of incredible speakers, talks, and live music showcases. We’re excited to have V&A East and BBC Music join us for the first time and can’t wait to hear what Mercury-nominated BERWYN and renowned producer Swindle have to say in their “In Conversations”. AIM's Ben Wynter will be recording the first episode of his brand new podcast, Be Unstoppable, where attendees will hear from the industry legend that is Darcus Beeese. Working alongside Ben and his colleagues at POWER UP, we’ll be hosting an open forum for industry execs to discuss the progress made on race accountability in the industry since the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. All are welcome and, if you’d like to be part of the discussion, please drop me a line. I want to thank all our partners, supporters and funders without whom this event would simply not happen, as well as the incredible young talent at UD who help to curate it all. I’m excited to see what next week holds and the positive impact we can create when the music industry fosters dialogue, creates spaces for change and nurtures the growth of young talent. PPL, BBC, Ahmed H., Jacqueline Springer, Candice Carty Williams, Polydor Records, Decca Records, Island Records, PRS for Music, SoundCloud, Small Green Shoots, UK Music Ltd, TRENCH, un:hurd music & Universal Music UK Read more here...

Yesterday we had the privilege of welcoming HRH The Princess Royal to our home at the Talent House. The visit, hosted and organised by our friends at the Foundation for Future London, marked the launch of second year of their UK-wide youth programme, Culture Exchange. As a Patron for the Foundation for Future London, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal met and awarded certificates to young people from the 2023 Culture Exchange pilot, who were part of a 50-strong cohort aged 18-25 from Birmingham, East London, Preston and Sheffield. The Princess Royal enjoyed a performance from our very own Flames Collective, toured our state-of-the-art facilities and met with a number of UD staff and students to hear firsthand about the work we do to empower the next generation of young Black creative talent. Our young people were buzzing after it – what a memorable day! Read the full story here https://lnkd.in/eN49rdPP
