Our latest article delves deep into the Green Belt's five key purposes. Spoiler alert: they're not about environmental protection!
The government recently announced big plans for the Green Belt, including an official ‘grey belt’ definition and compulsory reviews of Green Belt land boundaries when required. Given just how contentious Green Belt reform is, there has been some inevitable backlash. However, much of this opposition seems to stem from the many myths and misconceptions that have forever surrounded this policy. With this in mind, we thought we’d strip things back to basics and break down the Green Belt, including its five core purposes and how those purposes are assessed when it comes to classing land as Green Belt. Everything you need to know about the reinstatement of mandatory local housing targets, in one place. Have a read and let us know your thoughts!
Advisory targets = stagnation Mandatory targets = progress The decision to scrap the mandatory housing targets was a turning point, resulting in fewer new homes being built and a subsequent rise in property prices and rents. The reintroduction of mandatory targets aims to change this dynamic. Yet, there are substantial issues to address. 1 → How does the new housing need calculation method differ from the previous one, and what are its specific criteria? 2 → How will the revised NPPF ensure compliance across all local authorities? 3 → What challenges and opposition might local authorities face, and how will these be addressed? 4 → How will the government ensure the quality and sustainability of new housing developments? 5 → How will Labour’s broader housing strategy, including new towns and Green Belt developments, align with the reintroduced housing targets? We've explored these questions in our latest article. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/dzYH3mgZ #HousingCrisis #UKhousing #HousingTargets #NPPF #GreenBelt
