Architecture and Planning

Making architecture is an adventure better done in company.

About us

Morris + Company was established in 2018 and is the evolution of Duggan Morris Architects. The same creative spirit, developed over 12 years as Duggan Morris, is the foundation of the evolved practice; however, its reassembly as Morris + Company has brought a broader field of vision and more collegiate way of working. Our diverse team of 50 design and architecture professionals reflects its collaborative, international ethos. Our work demonstrates a strong portfolio of completed projects across workplace, housing, education and public buildings, delivering award-winning projects. The practice’s methodology is inquisitive and explorative, providing new perspectives on a brief allowing us to deliver landmark schemes with unique mixed uses, from the award-winning R7 office and commercial building in London’s Kings Cross development to the new Energy Hub, part of the Elephant Park regeneration project in London, combining a power plant serving more than 3,000 homes, a community space and a nursery. We have recently established our new office in Copenhagen, Denmark. Set up as a test-bed for a more deeply collaborative approach, it aims to explore new design territory through working with other practices through innovative projects and competitions For more information please visit: www.morrisand.company

FLEET STREET HILL After several years of deeply collaborative work for Blue Coast Capital, we are delighted to share that proposals for Fleet Street Hill have been formally submitted for planning consent to LB Tower Hamlets, to deliver 25 family sized affordable homes and 220 high quality co-living studios, alongside fully accessible public realm strongly influenced by the local character and specific to this area of East London with integrated play space and improved pedestrian links. _ Fleet Street Hill, a vacant and underutilised site located within the Brick Lane and Fournier Street Conservation Area, is flanked by two railway lines and separated by an underpass link to Allen Gardens directly to the south. The site boundary is framed by a former viaduct, along Pedley Street which is characterised by arches, constructed between 1836 and 1840, as part of the Eastern Counties Railway line into Shoreditch High Street. Brick Lane itself is just a two-minute walk away and Shoreditch High Street around seven minutes. The revitalisation of this derelict site to deliver a long-term, viable use, is in direct response to Tower Hamlets Growth Strategy and Draft New Local Plan which seeks improved safety around the site for Pedley Street residents with 24-hour natural surveillance; the provision of safe public routes, with links to the stations, park, cycle pathway and bridge; additional public and community spaces and improvements to the urban greening factor and biodiversity with over 10 different species of new tree planting, rain gardens and flower-rich planting areas _ ”Developer Blue Coast Capital is proposing to revitalise the derelict site to deliver a long-term, beneficial asset to Spitalfields. Designed by Morris+Company, the Featherstone Building takes inspiration from the Victorian warehouses in the Old Street area of London where it is situated. In between Clerkenwell and Shoreditch, the two ‘creative districts’ of London, the Derwent London scheme now provides 123,000 sqft of office space and 2,400 sqft of retail space which was built by Skanska. The precast brickwork by Skonto was dovetailed into traditional brickwork on the ground floor by Swift Brickwork Contractors Ltd. The contemporary tones of grey brickwork and rough precast lintels give a finely crafted look to the façade which was perfectly suited for the repetition required to make offsite construction an efficient choice. The team took an iterative approach to model making, using different scales to discern the ultimate effect of the building. They studied the texture, materiality, and light, recording the shadows cast on each individual brick. This level of detail shows in the final product, a flexible and robust building with a craftsman’s finish.
