What's better than one Impact Report? Two of course! With 'Put waste to work' our pals, Eco-Products have a strapline that neatly summarises our joint mission. Diverting #waste away from landfill. It's important. According to the UNEP, if #foodwaste were a country it would be the third biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, behind only China and the United States. We advocate for #composting because it offers a solution for both food waste and #packaging. We help customers turn their waste into a valuable resource. Putting waste to work. Our annual impact reports are an opportunity to review our efforts. We reflect on our impact on the #planet and our #communities as well as outlining our aims for the future. Anyone need a canal boat painting? Last week we sent a crack team to Ratho Dry Dock with an effort that would put DIY SOS to shame. All Aboard is a canal boat run by People Know How - a Scottish charity aiming to improve wellbeing across communities by supporting people to overcome barriers and thrive. The boat is used by People Know How to host unique trips on Edinburgh's Union Canal. These trips are an opportunity for community groups and organisations to improve wellbeing, socialise and discover new experiences. We were delighted to help out with the repainting 🎨 Find out more about People Know How and the great work they do here: https://bit.ly/4gNtigR

An interesting report here from the BBIA, Green Rose Chemistry and The University of Sheffield. The report outlines the barriers to the commercialisation of #biobased, #biodegradable and #compostable materials in the UK. Here are the key takeaways: - The potential of the UK's #bioeconomy is enormous but requires a unified strategy from #stakeholders and #policymakers to harness the #opportunity. - This lack of overarching strategy is limiting investment in biobased materials - As we outlined in our work with Compostable Coalition UK, consumer communication is key. Standardised terminology can play a critical role in informing consumers. WRAP report that people spend 10 seconds or less reading packaging labels. Whilst harmonised labelling is critical, it needs be part of a wider efforts to educate the public on the materials, uses and disposal of biobased, biodegradable and compostable materials.

💭🌳🚫Report launched | Perspectives on barriers to the commercialisation of bio-based, biodegradable and compostable materials in the UK🚫🌳💭 https://lnkd.in/eRNnWZt5 This report summarises the findings of the 6-month Innovate UK funded Bio-based and Biodegradable REGulatory NETwork (BB-REG-NET) project, carried out by BBIA, Green Rose Chemistry, and the The University of Sheffield. BB-REG-NET aimed to understand barriers to #commercialisation of #biobased, #biodegradable and #compostable materials (BB-materials), and ultimately by how adopting them, we can significantly reduce our reliance on #fossil resources. 🗎 Our engagement with 186 individuals and 102 organisations concluded that a lack of overarching strategy has led to disconnected departmental policies that hinder BB-materials commercialisation, and #regulations that are better suited to fossil-based incumbents. 📈 Due to the nascent nature of the sector, there is limited scientific data and evidence for robust development of regulations, detrimentally impacting the growth trajectory of BB-materials. 💬 Standardised #terminology and adequate language for #communication is missing, leading to consumer confusion and #greenwashing. 💚However, evidence-informed policymaking should not be at odds with innovation. For BB-materials, where evidence is limited, or non-existent, it is essential to assess current efforts, explore novel ways to realise the benefits of BB-materials, and pilot new policies – which in turn will generate evidence for future #policy decisions. 🗣️ Further work through BB-REG-NET is vital to provide scientific #evidence, allow policy makers and regulators to understand the environmental and economic impacts of creating new #policies, #regulations and #standards, and making alterations to existing ones.
