🍷 It's World Lambrusco Day tomorrow! 🍇 Lambrusco (the name of the grape and the wine itself) is a semi-sparkling red hailing from the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. Lambrusco has suffered quite an image problem, a hangover (excuse the pun) from the cheap, sweet, fizzy pop versions popularised in 80s America. Forget all of that! There are some amazing dry and semi-secco varieties available outside of Italy today. Quality ones to look out for are Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco Grasparossa and Lambrusco Salamino. 🍽️ Hugely versatile, Lambruscos make the perfect aperitivo, accompany a vast array of foods and are the ideal summer red. When the mercury starts rising, it often feels like the time to swap from red wines to whites and rosés. I love nothing more than a crisp and refreshing Fruliano or a mouthwatering Chablis. However, I often still hanker after a red, but it has to be something that suits the warmer weather and importantly pairs well with summer foods. On International Women’s Day we can talk yet again about factors that often prevent women from moving into male-dominated industries, unequal pay and the undervaluing of women's work. The dream!

I'm very much looking forward to attending the upcoming Cirò Revolution Day. Calabria, which houses the town of Cirò, in the southernmost part of the Italian mainland is the least visited and probably least understood region in the country. The same goes for its wines despite the fact that Cirò is on the cusp of obtaining DOCG status. The Cirò Revolution - a movement spearheaded by a collective of natural and organic producers including A'Vita, Fratelli dell’Aquila Assunta Dell'Aquila, Cote di Franze, Fezzigna Vini, Rocco Pirito and Tenuta del Conte di Francesco Parrilla - are demonstrating what the region's indigenous gems Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco are capable of producing (Andrew Johnson believes the former to be the most underrated grape variety in Italy).
