This week, VPI joined a coalition of business leaders to call on candidates for the Hull & East Yorkshire and Greater Lincolnshire mayoralties to back the creation of a Humber Estuary Growth Zone and unlock the regional CCS potential to drive economic growth and decarbonisation. The Humber Estuary – at the heart of which sits Humber Zero- plays a critical role in the UK’s energy transition and industrial rejuvenation. We support the joint call for: 🌍 The creation of a Humber Estuary Growth Zone, which will allow us to capitalise on the Humber Freeport’s potential and present a unified proposition to global investors. 👩🏫 Setting up an Invest Humber Estuary body to oversee infrastructure improvements and strengthen the skills pipeline for industries such as offshore wind, carbon capture, and advanced manufacturing. A strategic and unified approach to investment in the Humber could create tens of thousands of jobs and unlock up to £15 billion in private sector funding for decarbonisation efforts, including a £1.5 billion investment from VPI to retrofit carbon capture technology onto our combined heat and power plant in Immingham.

To celebrate International Women’s Day on Saturday, we interviewed Nia Fortune, our People’s Director and part of our management team, to ask a few questions about what she has learned along her career path and why #IWD is important to her. 👭 👭 👭 👭 👭 👭 👭 1️⃣ What does International Women’s Day mean to you? 🗨️ International Women’s Day commemorates women’s fight for equality and gives focus to gender equality – born from the movement of the female suffrage and international labour movement. At its core, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice women have made over the decades for the progress that has been made around employment rights. It’s also an important prompt to think about what more we need to do to support women, understand the specific difficulties they face in society and the workplace, reflect on all of our behaviour and ask ourselves ‘are we really doing everything we can?’. I think deeply about my role in supporting others and think about what the future holds for my children in our society and the future workplace. 2️⃣How are VPI Accelerating Action for women in the business? 🗨️ It’s great to be part of a team that takes gender equality seriously and is truly focused on talent. There has been tremendous focus placed on our talent programmes; and these are critical routes into business for women, particularly for STEM subjects, where we see female representation decline significantly throughout education. We currently have 30% female representation on our graduate schemes at VPI (compared to 13% across the business), which is fantastic. We have also seen female representation double in our Leadership team in a year, which is significant progress but there is still more to do. 3️⃣ Who has supported or inspired you in your life and/or career? 🗨️ There have been many women throughout my career who have supported me, such as Sabrina B. There have also been great male role models like Jorge Pikunic and Matthew Hickin. Those who inspire me, regardless of gender, are those people who show compassion in the workplace and make the effort to get to know the real you to enable you to be your best. 4️⃣ What advice would you offer a young woman starting out in her career? 🗨️ The most important thing I say now to women entering the workforce is to try and be authentic to yourself and your needs. When I reflect on my career, there were too many times I had to hide my true feelings or struggles so as not to provide any reasons to be treated differently and it was hard. We should be celebrated for juggling everything we do, and our priorities understood. Happy International Women's Day! 🥂

🚨 Yesterday, Olivia Powis, CCSA CEO, gave oral evidence to the Energy Security and Net Zero Select Committee on the Industrial Strategy for Clean Power, highlighting the huge opportunity for the UK by deploying CCUS at scale. The CCUS industry will drive economic growth, and create major opportunities for the UK supply chain - all while decarbonising key sectors across industrial heartlands. 💰 During the session, Olivia recognised the important progress made by the Government in progressing the first CCUS clusters in Merseyside and Teesside. With the upcoming Spending Review, it is crucial that the Government maintains momentum on deploying all clusters and projects, and commits to regular funding allocation rounds. This will secure: ✅ Long-term certainty for projects in CCUS Track-1, Track-2 & Track-1 expansions, and the projects that can deploy along similar timeframes. 💼 £26bn private investment & 50,000 jobs by 2025. 🏗️ £94bn cumulative GVA created in the UK by 2050. 🌍 Capture & storage of almost 25 million tonnes of CO₂ per year by 2030.   📈 CCUS is a vital growth driver for regions across the UK.   💡 Track-1 clusters: East Coast Cluster will remove almost 50% of the UK's total industrial cluster emissions and HyNet will transform one of the most energy-intensive manufacturing regions in the North West of England and North Wales, helping protect local industries and creating thousands of new jobs.   💡 Track-2 clusters: Viking CCS will play a crucial role in decarbonising critical industries in the Humber - the UK’s most industrialised region and largest emitter of CO₂ - and aims to safely, securely and cost-effectively capture and store 10 million tonnes of emissions per year by 2030, with an initial storage capacity of 300 million tonnes. Scottish Cluster has the potential to abate up to 10 million tonnes of CO₂, per year by 2030 – that is up to one third of the UK Government’s total CO₂ emissions reduction target for that year. 💡 Other clusters and projects across the UK that can deploy along similar timeframes will also be crucial in establishing a strong CCUS sector that ensures we meet out climate obligations.   👷♀️ To reach Clean Power by 2030, 81% emissions reductions by 2035, and net zero by 2050, we need to utilise CCUS across the UK’s industrial heartlands. #CCUS #NetZero #CleanGrowth #EnergySecurity

Today’s report from the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit is an important validation of the role that major energy infrastructure investments can play in the UK’s growth ambition. Investing and working in net zero sectors, like our #Humber capture project means more jobs, growth and prosperity for the UK, especially in the North East: 💷 Every £1 of value generated by the net zero economy creates an additional £1.89 in the wider economy 📈 The North East’s net zero economy grew by 10% in the past year 🔨Work centred around Net Zero in the North East contributes £2.3bn to the region’s economy 👷♀ Supporting 31,800 people in well-paid jobs in the North East The net zero economy can be a driving force of future growth for the UK. Within this, the most advanced CCS projects present a huge opportunity for the UK, attracting billions of private investment and thousands of jobs – all within this parliament.   For example, our Humber carbon capture project is ready for delivery. A green light for our project will allow us to deliver £1.5bn of committed capital investment and 1,500 regional jobs during construction. Even more importantly, it is a fantastic opportunity for the government to oversee a successful transition of an industrial powerhouse to a net zero future and where net zero and economic growth agendas can work together. #ECIU #NetZeroEconomy #CCS #NetZero #CleanPowerActionPlan Humber Zero
