For our final profile for #NationalApprenticeshipWeek, we spoke to 17 year old, Zach at CATCH. He is proving that apprenticeships are an incredible way to gain real-world experience and develop essential skills for the future that are transferable and can be used across different energy transition sectors.  🔧 What is process operations?  Zach describes it as "managing and monitoring the processes involved in manufacturing. It’s about setting up production lines and being at the forefront of operations." Hands-on and impactful, exactly the kind of role Zach feels he thrives in, “If you’re changing a valve, you have to isolate around it first – there’s more detail in the process than you’d think”. 🎓 Why did you choose an apprenticeship?  For Zach, hands-on learning is the key to his success. "I’ve always found it easier to learn by doing rather than sitting in a classroom. With an apprenticeship, I’m not only gaining valuable skills but also getting paid while I learn.” 🌍 How does Zach see his role contributing to the energy transition?  “The role that I’m in has a lot of important skills that need to be used across the energy industry and lot are quite transferable and can be used across different sectors.”  🤝 Making an impact  Zach is especially proud of giving back to the community through voluntary work. “Before Christmas, I joined a team project to help a company clear some land. There were quite a few of us that went and it was nice to help the community.” #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #NAW2025 # SkillsForLife #Apprenticeships #CareerSuccess #HandsOnLearning #BuildYourFuture

Our third apprentice in our Apprentice Interview Series, in partnership with Viking CCS and Harbour Energy is Harry, who is a first year Engineering Construction Pipefitter with Phillips 66 UK. Harry is a 16-year-old apprentice who is joining the world of pipe fitting. Inspired by his family, many of whom work in trades, Harry knew he wanted a hands-on job that would provide both practical experience and future opportunities. What is pipe fitting? Pipe fitting is all about precision and preparation. As Harry puts it, he focuses on “getting the job ready for the welder” - cutting, angling, and prepping pipes to ensure a perfect fit. Proudest moment: Harry’s recent achievement, being named Apprentice of the Month, is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and focus. “Cracking on with my work and not getting distracted” is why Harry thinks he earned this recognition. Skills developed: Harry is gaining the knowledge and experience he needs to thrive in the energy industry. “I've developed trade skills, how to be a pipefitter,” Harry explains, adding that he’s also learned how to “communicate with others around the workshop” and work well in a group. #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #Apprenticeships #TradeSkills #EnergyTransition #PipeFitting #CareerOpportunities #FutureOfWork #LearnWhileYouEarn David Talbot Katie Hedges Lisa Buck Ellie Owens Tottie Faragher Surinder Kaur Sian Joel Broddle AWeldI Lewis Bugg AWeldl Richard Leary Chelsea G. Today we’re meeting Harry who’s training at CATCH to become a metal fabricator with Phillips 66 UK. He shares just how quickly he’s learning #Skills essential for the #Energy industry.  "I wake up every day wanting to get better” At 16 years old, Harry is thriving in his plating apprenticeship, gaining real-world experience, and setting himself up for future success.  🔧 Finding the right path  A couple of years ago, Harry didn’t even know what an apprenticeship was, “I went on work experience and that was when I knew I wanted to do this—I didn’t want to just be sat in a classroom.” 🚀 Developing skills & gaining confidence  Since starting his apprenticeship, Harry has developed key hands-on skills, communication, and teamwork - all essential in the industry. “I’ve learned how to use basic tools now, and my communication has definitely improved.” Harry shared that one of his proudest moments was improvements he made early on during his apprenticeship, “the first couple of weeks, we were just in the welding bay. I found it quite tricky at first, but even by the second week, I was getting more consistent.” 💡 Loving the creative side of the job  When asked what he loves most about the job, Harry said, “making things and being creative. I turn up every day and enjoy it and want to get better at it." 💬 Advice for future apprentices?  “Definitely go for it! I was a bit uncertain at first, but after work experience, I just knew this was what I wanted to do.” #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #NAW2025 #SkillsForLife #Apprenticeships #CareerSuccess #BuildYourFuture

This week, in partnership with Viking CCS and Harbour Energy, we’ll be sharing insights from some of our incredible CATCH Apprentices, who are training to be process operators, pipe fitters and metal fabricators, and learning skills that will be essential to the future of the energy industry. Let’s meet 19-year-old Leah who’s training to become a Process Operator with Lenzing Group. What inspired you to pursue an apprenticeship? “I love the idea of learning and earning at the same time. Knowing I’d be employed at the end of my apprenticeship gives me real peace of mind.” Since starting her journey, Leah has developed key skills that are shaping her future and making a real difference in the energy industry. Skills gained: · Resilience: “I’ve learned it’s okay to make mistakes – the key is to keep going, think of alternatives, and find solutions.”. Leah thinks this skill is important for the industry as it will support creative thinking and brainstorming new ideas around the energy transition. · Teamwork and independence: “Both teamwork and independence are really important. It’s empowering to think and act on your own.” · Adaptability: “I like that no two days are the same, and I’m constantly learning something new.” Making an impact during her learning, Leah solved a critical issue during batch production that challenged the team. By carefully checking the system and spotting a valve issue, she kept the process running smoothly, “that moment showed me I’m more capable than I thought.” #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #NAW2024 #SkillsForLife #Apprenticeships #CareerSuccess #BuildYourFuture #EnergyTransition David Talbot Katie Hedges Lisa Buck Ellie Owens Tottie Faragher Surinder Kaur Sian Paul Robinson Robert Padley (CMgr,MIET,BSc,QTLS) Hannah Ardron Jayne Cooke Gary Thompson Tony Parry Jez Mills TechIOSH

We are delighted that the Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Immingham Green Energy Terminal (IGET) has been granted. This approval marks a significant milestone in our mission to Enable the Energy Transition through supporting major developments for green hydrogen production and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in the Humber region. The IGET project will bring substantial economic benefits, including the creation of hundreds of jobs during construction and ongoing operations.   Henrik Lundgaard Pedersen, Chief Executive Officer at Associated British Ports, said: “Today marks a big milestone in the UK’s energy transition journey and we are delighted that the Immingham Green Energy Terminal (IGET) project has been given the green light to progress to the next stage. We look forward to delivering first-class clean energy-enabling infrastructure for our customers to help their businesses grow.”   Andrew Dawes, Regional Director, Humber at Associated British Ports, said: “The Humber is the UK’s energy estuary and today’s announcement further strengthens this role. This success is the culmination of a lot of hard work with our partners across the region and it will be fantastic to see the economic benefits IGET will bring to coastal communities as well as nationwide.”   Once constructed, the terminal would be an important part of Air Products’ planned large scale green hydrogen production facility which would help decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors such as industry and transport. It will further strengthen the Port of Immingham’s position at the epicentre of the UK decarbonisation agenda. IGET is also an enabler of the Viking CCS Cluster.   Suzanne Lowe, Air Products Vice President and General Manager UK, Ireland, Israel, Italy commented: “We are pleased that the Immingham Green Energy Terminal has been granted Development Consent Order by the Secretary of State. Our renewable hydrogen facility would produce up to 300MW of green hydrogen and create 1,400 jobs, and £4.6 billion in economic value in the Humber estuary. We look forward to continuing our constructive dialogue with the UK government regarding policy support required to help us make a final investment decision.”   Graeme Davies, Executive Vice President, CCS, Harbour Energy, said: “This is a significant step towards supporting projects such as Viking CCS, that can help reduce the UK’s emissions. The IGET could enable imports of liquified CO₂ cargoes from across the UK and Europe, making an important contribution to our low carbon economy.”   We look forward to commencing construction in the coming months and delivering this important project. #EnergyTransition / Ralph Windeatt / Ben Hodgkin / Humber Energy Board / #Humber / Air Products / Adam Varley / Nicola Robinson MCIPD LLM Msc / Stephen Rimmer / #IndustrialDecarbonisation / Planning Inspectorate
