‘Home sweet home’ 🎞️☀️ Our drone pilots have captured Waldeck’s beautiful Wellingore Hall Head Office whilst carrying out some training hours in the late afternoon sun. A slightly different view to most of the sites we usually survey – such as prisons, railways and factories!

National Mentoring Day 2024 🪴 A chance to say a big ‘thank you’ to all of the Mentors who support our Early Careers Development Programme. Our Early Careers Employees each have a dedicated Mentor to help them navigate through their career journeys with us. By recognising the value of nurturing the next generation, our Mentors provide guidance, share their expertise, and create opportunities for their Mentees to thrive both personally and professionally. We look forward to celebrating together and announcing our first ‘Mentor of the Year’ at our annual Early Careers event next week! 🙌🏼

Last week, Waldeck had the pleasure of attending the University of Lincoln’s annual Careers Fair, alongside employers from across the UK, offering students and recent graduates the chance to explore career opportunities and gain valuable industry insights. Representing Waldeck were University of Lincoln alumni, Sophie Vanstone, and current student, Nina Windmann Windmann, both of whom first connected with Waldeck at this very event in previous years. Sophie and Nina stressed the value of attending events like the Careers Fair to gain insights and network with professionals. Find out more about what they had to say: ➡ https://lnkd.in/dzat35UB

🖥️ Post-Survey Data Processing with Autodesk Recap and Matterport! This week, our final-year Architectural Technology students took a deep dive into the data processing stage of digital surveying. After collecting site data using two types of laser scanners during last week's survey, the focus of this session was on using #AutodeskRecap and #Matterport to register and process the data for the next phase of digitisation. 🔍 Highlights: - Laser Scanners: We worked with both #Topcon and #LeicaBLK, exploring raw data from these tools and how can we use them, such as 360 images and point cloud data. - Data Registration: Students learned the techniques for registering point clouds, aligning the data sets to create accurate, detailed 3D models of the surveyed environment. - Processing for Digitisation: We then processed the data to prepare it for the next stage of architectural design and BIM integration, enabling students to see how survey information is transformed into actionable digital models. We were also delighted to welcome Amy Cheeseman, Head of Digital capture at Waldeck, as a guest speaker. Amy shared fascinating stories "behind-the-scenes" from her extensive experience in the field of surveying, giving students valuable industry insights. Her knowledge of digital surveying and the future of the profession was truly inspiring. A massive thank you to Amy for her inspiring talk! 🙏 This session is setting the groundwork for our students as they continue their journey into digitisation, preparing them for the digital built environment and the future of architectural technology. #DigitalSurveying #AutodeskRecap #Matterport #LaserScanning #ArchitecturalTechnology #FutureArchitects #BIM

It was good to attend the Great Places Housing Group offices for the launch of the Innovation Chain North framework in Manchester today. We heard from Ciarán Tully, Nick Cumberland and Shahi Islam on the housing sector, and learnt that the CPI has fallen but the cost of delivering services is growing faster than inflation 🏡 📈 We heard how the NHF is asking for a boost to their affordable homes programme, aswell as details of the warm homes social housing funds and also how hopefully Awaab's law will soon be implemented in full. Building safety as ever had a focus with more funding and the widening of those that can access this funding. Scrapping of the Infrastructure levy, the new approach to green belt and the announcement of grey belt was also discussed....there was alot of useful information to take away, a great event to be at. Waldeck provide Clerk of Works services on this framework. Waldeck Neale Stephens Andy Hassall Graham Wright

Last week I had the privilege of visiting Birmingham City University as a Guest Speaker for the Architectural Technology Digital Design Module. Waldeck have been working closely with the University for several years now, on our Network Rail asset management project, so it was a fantastic opportunity to partner with them again to share the practical applications of digital technologies and real-world insights with the students. I also showcased some of the cutting-edge equipment we use, including our drones! Thanks to everyone who participated and made the session so engaging and thank you to Mustafa Al-Adhami for the invitation, who was also previously a KTP on the Network Rail project!

New photos show giant crane lifting final steel liner ring at Hinkley Point C The third and final liner ring has been lifted into place by giant crane, Big Carl, at Hinkley Point C’s second reactor building. Engineering teams were able to lift the 423-tonne steel liner ring into place this afternoon, Monday 14 October. Big Carl’s latest lift highlights the progress being made at Hinkley Point C, where teams are using the learnings from building the first reactor unit to achieve efficiencies typically of between 20% and 30% on unit 2. #BuiltByUs

Another significant milestone achieved ahead of schedule! I’m incredibly proud to be part of this journey. This achievement has boosted everyone’s confidence, encouraging us to press on and successfully deliver the remaining milestones!
WATCH: The third liner ring being lifted into place by giant crane, Big Carl, at Hinkley Point C’s second reactor building. It’s the final ring to be installed on the building, which will be home to one of Hinkley Point C’s two nuclear reactors. The steel ring, which is 11.6-metres in height and 47 metres in diameter, forms part of the inner containment wall of the reactor building and will now be encased in two layers of concrete. #BuiltByUs
