📣 Today the UK House of Lords' Food, Diet and Obesity Committee published 'Recipe for health', a report which boldly outlines a range of far-reaching recommendations to transform our food system. We strongly urge the Government to take forward these recommendations given the state of the nation’s diet and the impact on our health. The UK’s national diet is high in saturated fat and sugars, which leads to obesity, a risk factor for 13 types of cancer, and many of the Committee's recommendations are based on our own evidence. For too long, our health has been impacted by an abundance of poor-quality foods, leaving too many at risk of developing preventable cancers. It is time for the government to make good on its commitment to prevention and take forward these recommendations in this cross-party report. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/e7pCNJ2c

A paper published today in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that the closer you follow the World Cancer Research Fund / American Institute for Cancer Research Cancer Prevention Recommendations, the lower the risk of breast cancer. The paper reports the findings of the latest review (led by researchers from IdISBa and CIBEROBN) from World Cancer Research Fund International’s Global Cancer Update Programme (CUP Global). The review examined 27 different dietary and lifestyle patterns. Some patterns specifically focused on cancer prevention, while others were more general and looked at a healthy diet or lifestyle. Some culturally defined patterns, such as a Mediterranean dietary pattern, were also examined. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dXau93An

In our latest blog, Jill Clark of CancerWatch looks at the 'Alcohol & Cancer' policy paper of the World Cancer Research Fund. She writes that a national alcohol strategy is needed to tackle alcohol-related cancer, which would include mandatory warning labels. "The last alcohol strategy for England and Wales was published in 2012, despite the evidence of increased harms over the last decade. And barely any of that strategy was actually implemented. It’s high time we saw more urgent action to tackle the preventable harms that alcohol can cause, including cancer. It is only when consumers become more aware of the risks that things will start to change." https://lnkd.in/ePrym-qQ
