Disabled talent gives you the edge. 1 in 5 of your customers are disabled. You might not know this of course, as you might be confusing disability with wheelchair use, but it’s a fact. When you design services or even just when you talk about your services, you include the perspective of disabled people, you will multiply the chance of engaging them. What is WelcoMe and why it exists. What: WelcoMe allows disabled visitors to communicate how best you can meet their needs when they arrive. In doing this it encourages more disabled people to visit your venue and use your services. Why: There are over 16 million disabled people in the UK (1 in 5 people) and many are not using your services or spending money in your store or visiting your museum, art gallery, cinema, restaurant, leisure centre, library, shopping centre, or even applying for your job because they are anxious that the service they will receive ignores the adaptation that ensures they feel comfortable. They aren't feeling welcome. A word about your team. They aren't feeling confident around disability either. WelcoMe recognises this and ensures that they have the information and skills they need before your disabled guest arrives. We call this "Proximity based disability awareness training", but simply put, information about how best to help your visitor pops up on their screen before their disabled guest or customer arrives.
