About us

West Lindsey District Council is a small district council in a large rural area. The district of West Lindsey covers the area immediately north of Lincoln and forms the north west gateway to Lincolnshire. Covering an area of 115,773 hectares (447 square miles, 1,158 square kilometres), the district is predominantly rural and provides an attractive setting for its three market towns of Caistor, Gainsborough and Market Rasen. The district is the 17th most sparsely populated area in England with a population density of 77 persons per square kilometre (Office for National Statistics based on Mid-2008 Population Estimates). This means that it is the most sparsely populated council within Lincolnshire and the East Midlands Region. The sparsity factor results in the costs of some services being higher compared with other district councils where the population is concentrated in a much smaller area, a major factor to be considered when undertaking Best Value.

  • West Lindsey District Councillors, Frazer Brown and John Barrett, arranged for LIVES to provide two defibrillator training sessions in the Burrows Lounge, at Frith Close, off Baker Drive, Nettleham, recently. In all around 26 people from around the area have now been trained by Simon Parker of LIVES. Cllr Barrett, said: “Our thanks go out to Simon, who was happy to come out to us. He did a great job of the training, which hopefully will save some lives.” Cllr Brown added: “I echo John’s thanks to Simon. It was extremely useful for all who attended, for those who’d never had any previous training and for those who’d done it many years ago. The ‘best practice’ has changed over the years so it’s good that we’re all up to date now.” The Burrows residents have decided they will have a coffee and cake event during the next 12 months to raise money for the LIVES charity. Cllr. John Barrett is pictured with LIVES trainer Simon Parker, and residents who attended one of the sessions.
