  • Working with Islington Council's Community Chest has been fantastic for our disability swim sessions. Their understanding of local nuances and commitment to building up communities has been invaluable. It takes a village to make these sessions successful, and we're grateful for their support.

Celebrating inclusion and achievement at the first WeSwim Gala 🏊♀️ Through the support of Islington Council's Community Chest, WeSwim provides disabled Londoners with a safe, welcoming space to enjoy swimming, connect socially, and improve their physical and mental health. Public swim sessions can often feel intimidating for those with disabilities, but WeSwim transforms the experience into one of empowerment and belonging. "Funding from the Community Chest has been crucial in allowing us to organise these sessions and maintain a robust team of volunteers to support our disabled swimmers.” ~ Tasha Fleming, Director of WeSwim Are you part of a group or organisation making a positive impact in Islington? Here’s how you can join us: ➡️ Give: Your support—big or small—helps us provide accessible swimming opportunities. Just £20 can make a difference. 🔗 in comments. ➡️ Amplify: Share our message and tag someone who cares about inclusion! Every donation and share is a step toward building a better future, where everyone has the chance to swim, connect, and thrive. Thank you for being part of this journey. HUGE NEWS: This week, WeSwim officially became a registered charity! 🎉 I couldn’t be prouder of this milestone. It’s the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, and it brings a new level of recognition and credibility to what we do. Every week, we see the incredible impact WeSwim has—empowering swimmers with disabilities and creating meaningful connections with the amazing volunteers who support them. Sometimes, it’s hard to put that impact into words, but this milestone feels like a validation of our mission. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Your support has been invaluable in making this happen. This is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for WeSwim. I can’t wait to see where this takes us. WeSwim is a London-based organisation providing accessible swimming opportunities for disabled individuals. Addressing barriers such as transport, costs, and limited inclusive facilities, WeSwim creates a supportive environment for participants to improve their physical and mental well-being. Founded in 2021, they now operate across five London locations, supported by a large, dedicated team of volunteers. In the latest round of Grants for Good, WeSwim has been granted £2,000 from John Good Group | Growing Businesses Together to help cover costs such as venue hire, equipment, and volunteer expenses, ensuring that more people across London can benefit from its inclusive swimming sessions. "I will treasure my medal forever." - Fulvia, WeSwim swimmer. For the first time, we brought together all five WeSwim clubs to participate in an inclusive and supportive event at our inaugural WeSwim Gala. It was an inspiring occasion where each swimmer’s achievements were celebrated, offering an opportunity for individuals to showcase their achievements and take pride in their progress. We were honoured to welcome the Mayor of Islington Council, Councillor Anjna Khurana, who contributed greatly to the event with her humour, empathy, and words of encouragement as she awarded the medals. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated volunteers, whose efforts — whether in timing races, supporting swimmers, creating artwork, or baking for the award ceremony — were instrumental in making the event a success. We are also deeply grateful to our funders Culture Mile BID London Marathon Foundation The National Lottery Community Fund and to GLL #IronmongerRowBaths for hosting and extending such a warm welcome. This event was a true celebration of not just swimming, but the strength of our community spirit. #InclusiveSwimming #Community #DisabilitySwimming #LondonCommunity #Inclusion Jane Hemsworth Kendall Robbins Victoria Watkins Jonathan Douglas Catriona McLellan Robin Hu Harriet Glanville Ana-Maria Marcu Elizabeth Shelton Joe Geary Vasu Singh Sujata Luchmun Louise Marfany Sophie Bloxam Adrienne Q. 🌿 Sensory Safari at the Barbican Conservatory! 🌿 I had the incredible opportunity to take a group of disabled swimmers, Volunteers and Natasha Fleming from WeSwim on a relaxed Sunday social tour of the Barbican Conservatory, the second-largest conservatory in London. 💚 This experience was not just about exploring the lush greenery and vibrant flora; it was about breaking down barriers and fostering a sense of community. It is important to me to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy and connect with nature in a safe and inclusive environment. We enjoyed a leisurely tour through the conservatory, soaking in the stunning surroundings while engaging in wonderful conversations. The smiles and laughter shared were a reminder of how crucial it is to create spaces where everyone feels welcome and valued. Thank you to all who participated! Together, we are building life-affirming relationships and embracing radical creativity as we explore the beauty of collaboration. 🌼 Let’s continue working towards a more inclusive and accessible world for all! 🌱 “Sense of belonging, feel invigorated, calm” 🌱 “It made me feel positive and bright” Thank you James Grant Freda Pouflis Rebecca Olivia for making this possible. Creating Inclusive Spaces for Trans Swimmers I’m incredibly proud of our team for delivering outstanding trans awareness training to our volunteers. Through firsthand accounts from our non-binary swimmers, volunteers, and staff, we gained valuable insights into the unique challenges trans and non-binary individuals face in swimming pools. These personal stories highlighted the painful reality of being asked to leave spaces, feeling unsafe, and ultimately being deterred from swimming. At WeSwim, we are committed to being strong allies to the trans community. We provide detailed information about changing room facilities and swimwear options in advance, which we hope makes more people feel safe and comfortable. We are also excited to announce that our gala this year will be non-gendered. Following the training, we are dedicated to implementing additional measures to ensure an inclusive environment for all.
