⏳ WFO Throwback Thursday #TBT Young authors from USA, Finland, Japan, Spain, China, India and Germany took part in June 2024 in several networking actions in Germany as part of the final stage of the WFO Young Researchers Conference, an action aimed at identifying some of the most #talented and #promising #young professionals in the foundry industry. 🌐 3rd Best Young Foundry Talent 2024 I was really happy to meet Shrivatsav Shankar from UC Irvine Advanced Casting Research Center (ACRC) and award him with this recognition. His work on upcycling low-value post consumer aluminum scrap and his attitude were decisive factors to make him one of the best young professionals in the #YRC2024. Let me also add that he has an extremely good taste for music… Also, a mention to the great job of Raquel Fierro Jaime who was part of the best ten authors in the final stage, what a great team you have there at the Advanced Casting Research Center (ACRC)! 🌐 2nd Best Young Foundry Talent 2024 Zhang Jianyue from The Ohio State University Advanced Casting Research Center (ACRC) was recognized as the 2nd best in the #YRC2024 after his explanations on the work developed for the optimization of T5 heat treatment in high pressure die casting of Al-Si-Mg-Mn alloys by using an improved Kampmann-Wagner Numerical (KWN) model. Though it was impossible for him to be with us in person this time, I will be happy to meet him in China in October. Is a mature industry like Foundry too old-fashioned to engage with concepts like TikTok, #influencers or Instagram? I don’t believe so, there are indeed many incredible professionals using this social media approach to engage with the society and the youth in an passionate and successful way also in metal industry. Our WFO Past President Carsten Kuhlgatz had the opportunity to exchange some thoughts about Foundry with Amelie Reigl, a PhD student at the Department of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine in Würzburg and also one of the largest female German-speaking TikTok #ContentCreator as @dieWissenschaftlerin. It was great to see the attention gathered then at the Foundry School set in #IdeenExpo, we really need these young voices to connect with the youth, hope they felt how exciting metalcasting can be! And I hope Amelie enjoyed the practical metalcasting session! The promotion of new professionals to enter our industry is a matter of all of us who are part of it.
