Last week, we hosted the latest module of the BAM UK & Ireland x Whitecroft Lighting Bright Futures Academy – Cohort 1. The Bright Futures Academy is a 12-month supply chain training programme that brings together some of the UK’s brightest young professionals in construction and facilities management. At Whitecroft Lighting, we contribute by delivering training on the core aspects of lighting design, helping to address industry challenges and encouraging collaborative working. This module focused on the core principles around emergency lighting design. Geopak™ made its debut at Fife Learning campus, developed alongside Balfour Beatty plc. Made from recycled polypropylene, the Geopak™ solution can be reused a minimum of 12 times, reducing the need for single-use plastic wrapping. The modules, which have GPS trackers, are easy to collapse and store until collected for reuse. We all want less waste – and for many of our customers, hitting waste reduction targets can be essential to meeting investment criteria or sustainability accreditation standards. Despite being a low-cost sustainable option, cardboard packaging often fails due to site logistics, with less than 50% of our cardboard packaging material being recycled after our luminaires were delivered on site. When thinking about the local community, supporting young people is a no-brainer for Whitecroft. Meet Rhiannan, a local student who completed her work experience with us. She spent a week across all departments to understand how they operate and collaborate. Rhiannan says: "Reflecting on my time at Whitecroft, I had an amazing opportunity to engage with and learn about each department, witnessing first-hand how they collaborate to ensure smooth operations. I’m extremely grateful for this experience, which has given me valuable insights into business functions. The people were incredibly generous with their time, discussing their roles and offering invaluable advice. Yesterday we welcomed Bridge College Openshaw, to tour our facilities on a school safari. As part of the Together Trust charity, Bridge College is a specialist further education program that serves students up to the age of 25 with learning difficulties, complex health needs, disabilities, communication disorders, and autism. The visit was met with incredible enthusiasm, with fantastic levels of interaction, engagement, and curiosity from students, teachers, and our team at Whitecroft. One of the teachers summed it up perfectly: "This is fantastic – it opens students’ eyes to the opportunities available in manufacturing companies." It has been a pleasure working with Willmott Dixon to light up the Lordshill Youth Project facilities in Southampton.
