Award-winning Music Convention from Scotland l 1-3 May 2024

About us

Wide Days was launched in 2010 and is hosted every April in Edinburgh by Wide Events CIC (formerly Born To Be Wide CIC). A past winner Best Networking Event at the Yearly Music Convention Awards, in 2019 welcomed 360 delegates from across the UK, Europe and North America + over 1000 people for the showcase and Festival Takeover. An additional 1000 people attended the evening showcases and the final night's Festival Takeover, which saw three Scottish festivals each programme a stage. Since 2017 the convention has ensured it has a gender-balanced speaker programme building on Wide Days 2016, when the majority of showcase acts were fronted by women. It was the first Scottish event to join PRS Foundation’s Keychange initiative. Acts who have previously showcased at Wide Days include Be Charlotte, Catholic Action, Fatherson, Rachel Sermanni, The Ninth Wave, , Scottish Album of the Year Award winner Kathryn Joseph and the Mercury-nominated C Duncan. Honeyblood, PAWS and Siobhan Wilson, all signed record deals as a result of their performances. Parent company, Wide Events CIC, has its origins in the Born To Be Wide evenings launched in 2004. These started out as social gathering for people working in the local music scene and have gone on to host more than 150 seminars, Q&As and talk shows, partnering with a diverse range of organisations. Wide Events CIC also stages music business seminars, showcases and the Off The Record youth events, as well as bespoke panels for other organisations.

We’re pleased to announce the eight acts who will feature in the first Made In Scotland Gigs showcase, which takes place on 14 and 15 August at Edinburgh’s La Belle Angèle venue. ℹ️ ➡️ https://wide.ink/mis Selected from almost 200 applications, in consultation with a music industry panel, the diverse line-up features jazz, alt. pop, indie rock, trad and punk hip-hop. The line up comprises: punk/hip-hop siblings Comfort, indie-rockers Gallus, trad four-piece Gnoss, grunge-inspired Indoor Foxes, Scots language folk champion Iona Fyfe, jazzers Nimbus Sextet (with additional guests), and the respective takes on alternative pop of The Big Day and Zoe Graham. Made In Scotland Gigs, was born out of a discussion panel hosted in 2018 which explored how to create a platform for domestic musicians to connect with local and international audiences during the Edinburgh festivals in August. It is the latest addition to the Made in Scotland initiative founded in 2009 by Creative Scotland and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society to raise the profile of Scottish dance, theatre and music companies/artists by providing unique networking opportunities with promoters. Ahead of the second night, there will be a special panel and forum to mark 20 years of Born To Be Wide which was founded as a social night to bring together Scotland’s musicians and music industry and led to the Wide Days convention. Founder Olaf Furniss will host a discussion reflecting on the past two decades and how Edinburgh’s diverse music community and audiences, can ensure that the sector thrives. Taking part will be SNEAKYPETES owner, Nick Stewart and The Skinny’s music editor, Tallah Brash with audience members encouraged to contribute perspectives. Delivered in partnership with Made In Scotland, Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society and Creative Scotland
