I am proud to announce that my colleagues and friends Marta Maj, Tina Črnigoj Marc, Julia Wimmer, Claudia Blass-Schenner, Lucie Kavka and I have successfully applied to establish a Central European Chapter of Women in HPC! This initiative is particularly close to my heart, as it addresses a critical issue in our region: the underrepresentation of women in ICT. According to Eurostat data, only 19.4% of ICT specialists in the EU are women, with Czechia, sadly, ranking the lowest at just 12.4%. You can see the alarming numbers below in the graph by #Eurostat from 2023. Here is the link to the original article: https://lnkd.in/eMkisQWQ This cause deeply resonates with me. Since joining IT4Innovations in 2012, I've often been one of the few women in a predominantly male environment. Seeing female colleagues excel and lead by example in such a setting has been incredibly inspiring. This is why I’ve been actively involved in initiatives like the Super(computing)heroes Birds of a Feather session at #ISC24. Now, with this chapter officially established, I’m formalizing my commitment to this vital cause. Our mission is twofold: to encourage more women to pursue careers in high-performance computing and to support those who are already making strides as HPC specialists. We aim to create a strong network where women in HPC can share experiences, gain visibility, and receive the recognition they deserve. I am eager to deepen my engagement and collaborate with my friends and colleagues who have been so active within the Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC) organization. I look forward to learning from their experiences and working together to make a meaningful impact in our region. We would be incredibly grateful if you joined us at the Central European Chapter of Women in HPC or followed and engaged with our chapter on LinkedIn. Together, we can create a diverse and supportive environment that will help us drive real change! #womeninICT #womenintech #whpc #diversity #community #genderbalance

This month I am thrilled to welcome AJ Lauer, EdD to the Move the Needle - Knowledge Portal. This is the person who actually served as my inspiration behind the entire project. Back in the murky long-ago at SC21 I served as volunteer for Communications under Inclusivity - a group she was chairing in very crazy times. Nearly every meeting she would say, "We need to strive to move the needle a bit forward..." be it covering different tech or social topics, welcoming new speakers, opening up options for people to network... it wasn't about a revolution it was all about the evolution. Her work in finding ways to progress forward in positive, mindful steps has stuck with me. So, when our A-Team requested some insight into allyship she very gladly stepped up and gave her insights into what that means. The best part is she did not shy away from what majority groups can do to make a real and lasting impact on opening the doors for more folks in our field. Thank you to AJ and of course the amazing Alces Flight Ltd, Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC) and the person who has to edit it all - Dominik Wojtak for bringing this piece to life. Normally I do the summary blog as my link (it is below) but this is straight-up one to watch or listen to. #allyship #allies #edia #HPC #supercomputing #womenintech #underrepresentation #diversity #inclusion https://lnkd.in/eFPXs3HX Or grab the summary blog: https://lnkd.in/efK-bhcG
