Who's joining us for Walk for Wellbeing this year? With just eight weeks to go, Walk for Wellbeing in support of Hospitality Action continues to gain momentum, with almost 300 people already signed up to take part and walk across the UK (thank you!) Walk for Wellbeing was created to bring people together, to shine a light on and help promote the importance of better mental health and wellbeing for our people, whilst raising funds to power the vital work of Hospitality Action. Join one of our 20km hosted walks on Sunday 13 October in London, Oxford, Bath/Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester or Glasgow. Or walk it your way by walking any distance, in any location, any time from Thursday 10 October (World Mental Health Day) to Sunday 27 October 2024. ‘Culture-fit’ is still a prevailing principle in hiring decisions, despite evidence that diverse workforces are better for business. That’s why truly future-facing businesses instead hire for ‘culture-add’ – an approach that values diversity and individuality over conformity, building stronger, more resilient teams and positioning smart businesses to thrive in a landscape defined by innovation, adaptability, and inclusivity. But culture-add isn't just a hiring strategy. It's a commitment to fostering an environment that reflects the richness and diversity of the global community – which is why it’s a magnet for top, often untapped talent. Not only that, creating an environment where people can be who they are, that values their unique talents and perspectives, ultimately leads to greater retention. Read why you should prioritise ‘culture-add’ in your hiring strategy here: https://rb.gy/13mrnd #cultureadd #culturefit #hiringstrategy #resilientteams #innovation #adaptability #inclusivity

Five years ago today, I sat down with Katie Brinsmead-Stockham from Hotel Hussy to workshop and create a brand for my new recruitment venture. Having decided on a company name, we spent all morning creating a brand around the name, my vision and values, but when mum popped up in conversation over lunch that day, I knew there was no going back. I didn't need to park the idea or even sleep on it, I immediately knew the newly discovered name captured everything I wanted it to. We spent the next couple of months working on the project and, ahead of our fifth birthday this October, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Katie for that unforgettable OMG/realisation moment, which to this day, still gives me goosebumps. I'm very fortunate to know some incredibly talented and supportive people, people who have lifted me up and helped me on this journey over the past five years and you are one of them Katie! Thank you 🙏🏼 🎙️Tune in and have a listen to The Belonging Conversations Podcast when you next have a moment and hear more about my journey in hospitality and recruitment, career highlights (and wrong turns), as well as my own experiences around mental health and thoughts on leadership, culture and wellbeing.

Hospitality Action Blog: Spotlight on: Craig Prentice & Sean Wheeler BEM FIH Hospitality Action chat with Patron Craig Prentice, Founder of mum, and Ambassador Sean Wheeler BEM FIH, who both share more on the charity's flagship Walk for Wellbeing initiative. "Human connection, physical movement and generally getting out and about in the fresh air all have a positive impact on mental health, so creating Walk for Wellbeing seemed a good idea. Above all, it's all about making a positive difference – to ourselves, those around us, the work of HA and in turn directly impacting the number of people the charity can support." Craig Sean continues "In my roles within operations and Human Resources I was always very aware of the importance of having a robust wellbeing strategy in place, as I have seen many employees struggling with the different aspects of wellbeing such as mental, emotional, social, physical support needs or financial help and where possible I ensured there were plans & strategies in place When Craig contacted me in 2020 during the pandemic, to talk me through his vision for Walk for Wellbeing it was a no brainer to get involved and here we are 5 years later with an even bigger Walk for Wellbeing in 2024." Did you know 17% of new starters leave in the first week, 17% in the first month, and 15% in the first six months? Even once you’ve found the perfect fit for your business, those first few weeks are crucial. That’s where effective onboarding comes in. Contrary to what you might think(!), it’s not all about paperwork and training. It's about making your newbies feel at home, getting them into the groove of your company culture and vibe, and setting them up for success.
