Women Powering Smart Energy in collaboration with DLA Piper - "Young Women Lawyers". 20th November, 2024 6pm to 9pm at 160 Aldersgate St, Barbican, London EC1A 4HT. Women make up more than half of would-be lawyers graduating from law school and while women are well represented in law firms - they make up over half of lawyers in law firms - the underrepresentation of women becomes more apparent at senior levels, and many leave the industry at Associate level. But retaining female talent is key to ensuring not simply diversity in law firms, but fresh perspectives, clearer thinking, innovation, collaboration, and trust as well. Lawyers, law firms, businesses, and organisations need to open access to a wide and diverse pool of talent at entry level, and provide support, sponsorship, and working flexibility to remove the structural barriers that cause women lawyers to leave their professions before they are ready to do so. The discussion will be based on personal experiences in the legal profession, looking at some of the following questions. What attracts women to the legal industry? What barriers do women believe they face within it? How can those barriers be dismantled? How important to a career in law are role models, sponsors and mentors? How important is support, sponsorship, work flexibility and mentorship to professional progression within a law practice? Are large law firms changing fast enough to realign for the immediate and future demands of a volatile and unpredictable world? So far, our confirmed Panellists are: Future Leaders in Law Amy Marren MBE PLY Isabella McWilliams Darcey Cunningham Today's Leaders & Role Models in Law Julia Pyke FEI, HonFNucl Dana Denis-Smith Carol Cloughley - Head Of Legal Solar, Storage & Private Wire at EDF Renewables UK & Ireland ...more to follow, and of course the event will be Chaired by Natasha Luther-Jones, Partner & International Head of Sustainability and ESG Global Co-Chair, Energy and Natural Resources Sector at DLA Piper. Further details and ticket availability nearer the time. #womeninlaw #womenleaders #diversity #collaboration #womenpoweringsmartenergy

What a wonderful evening!
Noting that a second Women Powering Smart Energy, 'Young Women........ Future Leaders' is upcoming (Oct 14th Tickets here https://lnkd.in/e4tqGEj5 ), I was asked why I did not leave the post I shared about the 'Young Women Engineers' event on the 29th April. I always feel that I am "grandstanding"; looking to attract favourable attention from anyone that cares to look at my posts. I have to say though, and I have always said it, I feel so proud of being able to put brilliant people together for an excellent evening of fresh discussion, thought-provoking ideas, and enjoyment.... But it truly is all about the people that support #WPSE by their participation and by their hosting and Chairing of the #WPSE events. So I promise to leave all event posts up online until somebody tells me to take them down. On the 29th April, the people that deserved all the credit are..... Natasha Luther-Jones, Anna Mills, Sarah Thomas, Julie-Ann Wyatt, Caitlin Shaw, Francesca Fanton, Afrose Ameen, Emily McLean, Mafer (María Fernanda) Barrera Ortiz, Dr Ulrika Wising, Susan McDonald MEng MIET, Claire Miller, Dr Jo Jolly, and Georgina Dingley Here's to more of the same. #womenempoweringwomen #womeninengineering #womenininfrastructure
