The plastic pollution crisis is one of the biggest challenges our planet is facing. Around 450 million tonnes of plastic waste is generated globally each year with less than 10% recycled. What's left is often incinerated, sent to landfill or littered, with an estimated 2 million tonnes washing into our oceans. Our CTO and Co-Founder, Marc Rodríguez Garcia, spoke to Andrew Wade at The Engineer UK to highlight how breakthrough innovations, such as Xampla's Morro materials, offer the ability to eliminate the world's most polluting plastics with the power of plants. https://lnkd.in/e2NPdnRj

At Xampla, we're proud that our team boasts strong female representation across all departments including leadership, commercial, and R&D. 40% of our employees are female, compared to typically just 29% in the UK within the STEM workforce. To celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we're putting the spotlight on some of our scientific team to inspire the next generation of remarkable women in science. Yesterday, I had the honour of participating in Growth Unleashed at Mansion House. Growth Unleashed highlights leading technology companies in the UK to emphasise the role that technology plays in creating and maximising growth through innovation. I had the opportunity to meet the Lord Mayor of London and take to the stage to showcase Xampla’s breakthrough technology using the power of plants to create materials to change the world, and in particular, our Morro materials, which are designed to eliminate the world’s most polluting plastics. It was great to meet with professionals across a range of industries from banking and investment through to professional service sectors to celebrate the spirit of ambition and innovative tech in the UK. Thank you to Amadeus Capital Partners for supporting Xampla at the event as a Supporting Promoter for Growth Unleashed. #GrowthUnleashed #ChooseThePlanet

Morro in the mountains of Sri Lanka! Our marketing manager, Harriet Arushie Pope, took our Morro Box on tour to the tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya. Put to the test with some of Sri Lanka's national dishes, our completely plastic-free and fully biodegradable coating performed perfectly. #ChooseThePlanet

Morro Coating can help improve your on-pack recycling credentials. Our natural barrier coating has been externally validated as compatible with standard recycling process. Using the Recycling Evaluation Protocol developed by 4evergreen alliance, DS Smith tested 275 gsm kraft board with 6 gsm of Morro Coating. Following the testing, Morro Coating was award 87 with a 'best in class' evaluation for repulpability, level 2 for visual impurities with no compromising issues on the optical quality of the pulp, and the highest level for sheet adhesion for both coarse and fine accepts. If you would like more details on our recyclability evaluation and full report, please visit here > https://lnkd.in/eNWi4vsu

Morro Soluble Film has been created to stop non-biodegradable materials entering our oceans and environment from plastic and PVOH wrapping. Our plastic-free film is compatible with low-water content products. We have tested with a range of applications including laundry pods and dishwasher tablets on standard flow-wrap machinery. #ChooseThePlanet
