As a material innovation company with a primary focus on fashion packaging, it was an honor to chat with Vogue Business journalist Jessica Binns about what comes next for industry sustainability amid tariff turbulence. Tariffs on sustainable packaging alternatives could create two primary reactions from brands: either continuing with existing (often plastic) solutions to avoid disruption, or pivoting to domestically-sourced alternatives. Sway is well-positioned for the latter scenario, as the majority of our manufacturing already takes place within the United States. To advocate effectively in this environment, Sway is focused on a few strategies: → Strengthening & expanding our domestic manufacturing as a strategic advantage that provides tariff resilience while supporting American jobs. → Educating brands on the total cost of ownership beyond immediate material expenses, including consumer preference trends, regulatory compliance, and potential future plastic taxes. → Developing clear case studies quantifying how our early adopters have benefited from improved brand perception and customer loyalty, providing tangible evidence that seaweed packaging delivers measurable business value — even in challenging economic conditions.
