About us
The Animal AgTech Innovation Summit is moving to Dallas, the heart of US animal agriculture, on April 8-9, 2025. National and international leaders in livestock production will gather to tackle the sector’s challenges and opportunities, with a focus on the role of technology in achieving long-term economic and environmental sustainability. An expert speaking faculty will identify key solutions to elevate the industry, from novel pharmaceuticals, feed additives and genetic innovations, to regenerative agriculture, precision farming and methane management. The summit will spotlight high-value investment opportunities and showcase new technology breakthroughs, with discussion focused on the collaborative efforts needed to accelerate adoption and achieve transformative change. Interactive panels will be interspersed with start-up pitching sessions, and case studies of successful innovation on the farm. Bringing together over 350 senior executives from meat and dairy brands, health providers, feed producers, equipment manufacturers, software developers, start-ups and VCs, the goal of the summit is to promote knowledge sharing and strategic networking, with a full program of 1-1 meetings taking place alongside the plenary sessions.

Engaging Conversations Still Buzzing Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend the #AnimalAgTech Innovation Summit in Amsterdam, organised by Rethink Events, where the theme was “One Health in Meat and Dairy.” While this was the primary focus, the conference covered a much broader range of critical issues, including compliance with the EU’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), improving farm animal health and nutrition through on-farm AI and precision farming, investment opportunities in the sector, carbon pricing, methane reduction strategies, and regenerative agriculture. I had the privilege of moderating a session on advancements in carbon, biodiversity, and water measurement technologies. Joining me were Conrad Young from Chirrup.ai and Pablo Modernel from FrieslandCampina, who provided insightful perspectives from both a technology provider and a user within the industry. At the Summit, the scope of topics and their intersection with societal interests—climate change, sustainability, biodiversity, and human welfare—demonstrated the vast and complex role that agriculture plays. Each issue presents unique challenges in terms of definition, measurement, verification, and balancing short-term goals with long-term sustainability, all while considering local contexts and spatial variability. It’s often said, and rightly so, that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. This necessitates careful prioritisation of actions, balancing urgency with impact, addressing trade-offs, and maximising co-benefits where possible. Our session took a practical approach, with Friesland Campina offering insights from a implementation and user’s perspective and Chirrup presenting the cutting-edge technologies that can demonstrate progress and aid decision making. But an important question remains—where does the farmer and the farm fit into this evolving landscape? Recording and measurement needs to be autonomous, objective, digital and include contextual information; enabling farmers to farm and use the information to make informed decisions. It needs to be digital: not pen and paper. Farmers needs to be recognised financially for delivering societal and nature benefits that are not rewarded through commodity prices. Thanks to Mhairi Cameron and Rethink Events for the photos. Enormous thanks to Conrad and Pablo for being on the panel, and to Liam Littrup Jensen Sophie Ruffett for making it all happen.

Last week's inspiring session at the Animal AgTech Innovation Summit 🌾🐄🚀One key takeaway: It's time we flip the script on agricultural investment. Instead of asking, "How can we capture value?", we need to ask, "How can we add value to smallholder farmers?"This shift in perspective is crucial for creating real, sustainable impact. When we empower the backbone of our global food system - the smallholder farmers - we're not just improving lives, we're revolutionizing the entire agricultural ecosystem. Some Dimitra Technology to explore together : 📖 Knowledge transfer to boost productivity 🧑🌾 Fair pricing models that benefit farmers 💰 Innovative financing solutions Remember, sustainable agriculture isn't just about crops and livestock - it's about people. Let's invest in their potential and watch our industry thrive! Huge thanks to Animal AgTech Innovation Summit for providing this platform. And my fellow panelists Roel Messie, Donal Ryan, Marijn Hendrickx and our moderator Charles Crofton-Atkins (艾查理) Now, who's ready to turn these ideas into action? 💡👨🌾👩🌾#AgTech #SustainableAgriculture #FarmerFirst #InnovationInAction

Two micro-organisms – a bacterium and an algae – can be used together to convert carbon dioxide and methane into a protein-rich biomass. The novel process generates a biomass rich in protein. It is being explored as an animal feed ingredient, use for human nutrition, or to produced high-value nutraceuticals or pigments. “It would reduce our reliance on imported livestock feed, and decarbonise these industries, while also reducing the cost of carbon emissions for geothermal companies that adopt the system" says Steve Penno, Director of Investment Programmes at Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/4f2VJWk

A great opportunity to discuss the road ahead, the choices to be made and the collaborations that are possible today at Animal AgTech Innovation Summit Many thanks for the opportunity to join you.
"It has to start with the farmer, otherwise we are setting ourselves up for failure. Without the farmer doing their job, we wouldn't be successful" - Tara McCarthy, Alltech And we’re back for another day of #AnimalAgTech! Today’s opening panel explores the learnings from Denmark’s landmark carbon emissions tax on livestock, and how this ruling will accelerate and drive innovation to reduce emissions among livestock producers. Moderated by Maarten Goossens, Founding Partner of Anterra Capital, he’s joined by: Tara McCarthy, GVP ESG, Alltech Xiaoyun Bing, Global Sustainability Director, Interfood Group Maurice Hensl, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Root Global Bjorn Stibbe, Senior Manager Business Development – Global Food System Transition & Ex-MD, Rabobank

Less than 5% of farms in the EU are over 100 hectares. But they represent over 50% of the farmed area of Europe. These farms have one foot in the family-farming tradition of environmental stewardship, and the other foot in the world of genomics, environmental sensing, and precision technologies. Following a compelling presentation from Mark Brooking on progress made by First Milk farmers in the UK, and a roundtable on biodiversity chaired by Barry Larkham-Jones, it was great to share the platform with Pablo Modernel one of the EU's leaders in ecological farm management, who showed how a Netherlands-based dairy business - FrieslandCampina - is balancing these two worlds. I talked about the Chirrup.ai mission to get 21st century biodiversity measurement tools into the hands of farming, so that we can collectively address the real challenges and opportunities, as well as some of the misinformation about livestock farming, with objective data. Thanks to Sam Hoste for expert chairing, to Mhairi Cameron for bringing One Health insights into the Chirrup development discussions and to Liam Littrup Jensen and colleagues for a well run two days. #regenerative #farming #agtech #biodiversity
