Look out for our new campaign in this Saturday's The Guardian! Heat Batteries: A Cleaner Battery Alternative for Our Cities While we are paying wind farms to curtail power production, our homes are being left in the cold - revealing heat as the missing link in our renewable strategy. Better integration between power and heat systems is therefore essential. Electric batteries are pricey, but converting excess power to stored heat is affordable and proven. Europe’s Heat Batteries already store surplus power as heated water for entire cities. Power pricing reform is urgently needed to address this market failure. 🔥 New Heat Prices are In! 🔥 Twice a year, the Danish Utility Regulator releases the comprehensive price list for all District Heating Networks across Denmark. This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about: transparency, trust, and performance. 📈 By making the price of heat public, they’re creating a culture of accountability where every network is motivated to enhance efficiency and keep costs competitive. With transparency at the heart of Danish energy, consumers know they’re getting fair pricing and that their heat provider is striving to perform at the highest level. Let’s keep pushing for greener, smarter, and fairer heating systems that work for everyone. 🌍 If you would like to download the pdf visit our document library here: https://lnkd.in/etw_nNaw #HeatHighways #HeatTransmissionHighways #GreenHeat #StreetbyStreet #heatnetworks #communalheating #communalheatnetworks #districtheating #districtheatnetworks #wasteheat #excessheat #surplusheat #renewableheat #energywaste #fuelpoverty

Architects play a defining role in the energy efficiency and performance of multi-residential buildings. A key design consideration is the strategic placement of Heat Interface Units (HIUs) within the heating distribution network. We've created a document that provides practical guidance for optimal HIU placement, based on the Heat Networks Code of Practice. All our documents can be found in our document library: https://lnkd.in/etw_nNaw #heatnetworks #greenheat #cleanheat #districtheating #communalheating

How did one town achieve the lowest district heating prices in Denmark? As coastal towns in the UK look to revitalise their economies and transition to greener energy, they can find inspiration just across the North Sea. Located on Denmark’s west coast, Hvide Sande (White Sands) is a picturesque fishing town known for its stunning beaches and tight-knit community of approximately 3,000 inhabitants. Remarkably, 96% of the town’s residents are connected to its District Heating Network, which boasts the lowest heating prices in Denmark, a result of its forward-thinking embrace of renewable energy and strategic thermal storage, offering both economic and long-term environmental benefits. #HeatHighways #HeatTransmissionHighways #GreenHeat #StreetbyStreet #heatnetworks #communalheating #communalheatnetworks #districtheating #districtheatnetworks #wasteheat #excessheat #surplusheat #renewableheat #energywaste #fuelpoverty

Energy from Waste (EfW) plants have recently gotten a lot of bad press in the media - and if they don't have heat recovery then rightly so! Back in May we visited CopenHill Waste Incineration facility in the heart of Copenhagen. The facility is so efficient that the plant not only makes use of Copenhagen’s waste, but also imports waste from the UK, Italy and Holland - and with a lower carbon footprint than if the waste hadn’t been transported and was incinerated at less efficient plants in the countries of origin. The energy plant utilises both residual and commercial waste that cannot be recycled or specially treated. The steam emitted is 99.9% pure H2O. It’s impressive to see such infrastructure that not only produces electricity, waste heat for district heating but also offers the inhabitants of Copenhagen with beautiful architecture, a nature walk (there are over 200 species of plants and trees), a climbing wall and of course the ski slope! #heatnetworks #communalheating #districtheating #heathighways #cleanheat #fuelpoverty The views of Copenhagen are astounding and we recommend a visit.

This is a fantastic document produced by State of Green Denmark. The beautiful thing here is that none of the examples are pie in the sky thinking, these are all examples that can help speed up the green energy transition using mature technologies that already exist today. We would highly recommend giving this a read!
Today, I'm extra excited 💚 Together with the Danish Energy Agency, Danish Industry, Green Power Denmark, the Danish Agriculture and Food Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and GESEK - Komitéen for Grøn Energi og Sektorkobling we're launching the brand-new State of Green Denmark white paper on sector coupling which offers insights and concrete examples from Denmark on how to unlock the full potential of #renewable #energy ♻️ To accelerate the green transition, we need to take on a new and more holistic approach to our energy system. This means breaking down silos and enabling renewable energy to flow seamlessly between traditionally separate sectors such as #heating, #cooling, #water, #storage, #PtX, #transport, #agriculture and industrial processes. It's like connecting pieces of a big puzzle. Each sector represents a piece of the puzzle, and sector coupling is the process of fitting these pieces together, so that they work in harmony to create an integrated energy system, that is more sustainable, efficient and resilient. This is a critical next step in decarbonising our society and achieving ambitious climate goals. Thank you Nadeem Niwaz, Hans Peter Slente, Anders Bitsch Youssef, Simon Horsholt, Nikolaj Stig Nielsen and Nicholas Enersen for your expert input and collaboration - it's been a pleasure! Heat Networks: The Battery Alternative No One Is Talking About With a well-established national gas network and around 85% of homes relying on a gas boiler, the concept of ‘electrifying’ UK heating is often lost in translation. While it may conjure up images of expensive to run direct electric heaters, it actually refers to district heat produced by heat pumps and electric boilers utilising renewable energy. However, these only produce truly ‘green’ heat when powered by renewables. Without large-scale thermal energy storage (LTES) these systems risk becoming notoriously expensive to run, costs that will inevitably land on the consumers. Find out how Denmark is delivering cheap heat by decoupling supply from demand with LTES in our latest raven-i, which can be found here: https://lnkd.in/etw_nNaw #HeatHighways #HeatTransmissionHighways #GreenHeat #StreetbyStreet #heatnetworks #communalheating #communalheatnetworks #districtheating #districtheatnetworks #wasteheat #excessheat #surplusheat #renewableheat #energywaste #fuelpoverty

District heat networks can sustainably transform UK heating - but only with strong consumer support. The most effective way to accelerate away from gas is through District Heat-as-a-Service (DHaaS), an affordable and hassle-free upgrade with user-friendly monitoring and billing. Industrial Anchor Load Drives District Heating Expansion for Three Villages Danish Crown, the world's largest pork exporter, is helping power sustainable heating solutions for three villages in Southern Jutland. By connecting its Blans abattoir to Sønderborg Varme's district heating network, they are reducing reliance on natural gas, lowering carbon emissions, and supporting local communities. As an anchor load, the Blans facility ensures stable energy demand, enabling affordable heating for nearby households without extra costs. This partnership highlights Danish Crown’s commitment to sustainability and achieving net-zero by 2050 as well as Sønderborg's goal of reaching Net Zero by 2029! Supported by Danfoss Climate Solutions via their ProjectZero 🌍♻️ Read more about how industrial anchor loads are shaping the future of district heating below or visit our document library here: https://lnkd.in/etw_nNaw #Sustainability #DistrictHeating #NetZero #EnergyTransition #Community
