From Power-to-X to district heating: Sector coupling for smart energy solutions 🔗 A postcard from a busy week in Germany! Last week, stakeholders from both public and private sectors came together at the Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe in Hamburg to explore transformative solutions in low-carbon hydrogen production, efficient storage, and distribution. In collaboration with The Trade Council of Denmark in Germany, German-Danish Chamber of Commerce, and Danish Energy Export, we hosted a panel at "The Pavilion - Powered by Denmark," showcasing how sector coupling can elevate renewable energy integration, boost efficiency, and drive a cohesive energy system through intelligent planning. Our new white paper on sector coupling debuted at the event, sparking dialogue on leveraging this potential within Germany's upcoming heat planning strategy. Joining the discussion were Andreas Koch, Team Leader for Districts & Cities at Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena, and Alexander Kotschi, Country Market Director for Energy at Ramboll Deutschland, who highlighted the integration of excess heat from Power-to-X with district heating—a crucial step towards sustainable urban energy planning. What does 'nature-positive' finance even look like? While global leaders and public-private biodiversity experts gathered at #COP16 in Cali, State of Green Denmark and Danish Industry hosted a panel discussion this Saturday at the Colombian Pavilion in the Blue Zone to delve into the business case for biodiversity. With the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework stressing urgency, the event addressed critical pathways for securing finance for biodiversity, the role of cross-sector collaboration, and the importance of legislative frameworks and international measurement standards. Karin Klitgaard, Director of Environmental Policy at Danish Industry, set the stage by presenting "The Danish Model", where collaboration between business, government and civil society is seen as fundamental in the strategy to halt and reverse nature loss. Then a panel discussion sought to answer the main question by discussing the basic biodiversity challenges and solutions for businesses to be successful in the future – from investors’ perspective. Panelists were: Anne Reinhold, PKA Gwen Yu, J.P. Morgan Katariina Vartiainen, Nefco - the Nordic Green Bank Thomas Henriksen, PensionDanmark Thorbjørn Lundholm Dahl, Danske Bank The session underscored that respect for biodiversity is a new parameter to be integrated in industries’ business cases and a key element in the financial sectors investment and lending policies. Read more about Denmark's public-private approach to tackling the biodiversity crisis in our publication "From Biodiversity Commitments to concrete action". Made in collaboration with Miljø- og Ligestillingsministeriet , the publication presents recommendations from Denmark's Biodiversity Partnership while displaying specific examples of corporate and financial biodiversity action. State of Green Denmark genopslog dette
Today, I'm extra excited 💚 Together with the Danish Energy Agency, Danish Industry, Green Power Denmark, the Danish Agriculture and Food Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and GESEK - Komitéen for Grøn Energi og Sektorkobling we're launching the brand-new State of Green Denmark white paper on sector coupling which offers insights and concrete examples from Denmark on how to unlock the full potential of #renewable #energy ♻️ To accelerate the green transition, we need to take on a new and more holistic approach to our energy system. This means breaking down silos and enabling renewable energy to flow seamlessly between traditionally separate sectors such as #heating, #cooling, #water, #storage, #PtX, #transport, #agriculture and industrial processes. It's like connecting pieces of a big puzzle. Each sector represents a piece of the puzzle, and sector coupling is the process of fitting these pieces together, so that they work in harmony to create an integrated energy system, that is more sustainable, efficient and resilient. This is a critical next step in decarbonising our society and achieving ambitious climate goals. Thank you Nadeem Niwaz, Hans Peter Slente, Anders Bitsch Youssef, Simon Horsholt, Nikolaj Stig Nielsen and Nicholas Enersen for your expert input and collaboration - it's been a pleasure! Countdown to COP29: Decarbonising cities for greener societies 🏘️ With COP29 getting closer, we take a look at some of the main themes at the Denmark Pavilion at this year's climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. On Wednesday 20 November, "Urbanisation, transport and tourism" will take centre stage as the main theme at COP29. Home to more than half of the global population and responsible for approximately 70% of global emissions, there is no doubt that cities play an important part in the global green transition. COP29 is expected to spotlight the importance of creating resilient, sustainable urban environments. Danish cities and municipalities hold a long tradition of holistic and strategic urban planning, as well as implementing urban developments within mobility, infrastructure, climate adaptation, environmentally conscious architecture and construction. With ambitious climate plans and aims to slash emissions by a combined 76% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels, Danish municipalities are aiming to inspire others to act in support of the Paris Agreement. These efforts will be showcased at COP29, where Denmark will present its experiences and solutions for climate-adaptive urban development.
