Great video introduction to the Solena Materials Limited team and their work!
❗ With the textile industry’s share of the global carbon budget set to increase from 2% (2015) to 26% (2050), there is an urgent need for apparel companies to source sustainable alternative textiles. 🏭 Typically, the industry uses synthetic textiles which are oil-derived, slow to degrade, and cause significant microplastic pollution, or instead compromise on performance and scalability by opting for natural fibres. 🌎 We develop high-performance sustainable textiles to reduce the fashion industry’s environmental impact. 🔬 We use unique machine learning platforms and bio-based manufacturing to design world-first synthetic proteins which can be engineered into high-performance fibres. 📊 Properties of our fibres include: 🔹 Non-oil derived 🔹 Superior mechanical properties 🔹 High-quality, soft hand-feel ❓ But how? Jonathan Muller, PhD develops high performing microbial strains, the powerhouses of our protein production. Sarunas Driezis purifies and rigorously tests a variety of proteins using our high throughput materials testing platform. Valeria Caraus optimises upstream and downstream processing for cost-efficient, scalable production. 🌐 By partnering with Solena Materials, apparel companies can lead in sustainable materials innovation, without sacrificing fabric performance. ⏩ Check out our website to learn more: https://lnkd.in/dTcF8jhR. #SustainableFashion #SustainableTextiles #TextileIndustry #Biotech #MachineLearning

What an exciting innovation!
How well can you see underwater? DIANA innovator Lobster Robotics has developed underwater drones that can see the seafloor down to 1m underwater visibility. Lobster Robotics is contributing to DIANA’s Sensing and Surveillance challenge area, vastly improving seafloor mapping capabilities. From detecting suspicious objects near critical underwater infrastructure to counting oysters in reef restoration projects, Lobster Robotics creates clear and accurate LobsterMaps even in low-visibility conditions. Joining DIANA opened doors for Lobster Robotics in the defence sector, guiding the company and connecting them with leaders and end users in defence across the Alliance. With agile innovation, Lobster Robotics is improving our ability to understand, monitor and protect the ocean floor and its resources from environmental and adversarial threats alike. Another interesting seminar in I-HUB at I-X!
Join us for our next I-X seminar with Professor Mihaela van der Schaar titled "Pushing the boundaries of what is possible with ML: The Reality-Centric AI Agenda." 🕓 13.00 (GMT) 📅 Tuesday, 5 November 📍 Hybrid (White City Campus / Microsoft Teams) This talk introduces the Reality-Centric AI agenda, an approach that tackles the complexity and challenges of the real world through machine learning (ML). I will explore how we are expanding the boundaries of #ML to advance this vision—ranging from using #AI to drive scientific discovery, to pioneering new directions in causal inference over time, to making AI effective with real-world data, and to empowering individuals with AI. Professor Mihaela van der Schaar is the John Humphrey Plummer Professor of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Medicine at the University of Cambridge. In addition to leading the van der Schaar Lab, Mihaela is founder and director of the Cambridge Centre for AI in Medicine. 🔗 Find out more and register now! ➡ https://lnkd.in/dcJj_PFj Imperial College London | White City Innovation District | Scale Space | I-HUB | Upstream

Perhaps it's the accuracy with which they use their lab pipette, or their beautifully warm inner soul, but all of our members are natural-born artists. We love breaking through the barriers of science, but strictly during working hours. After hours, I-HUB transforms into a crafty space. Thanks for joining us for our first Sip'n'Paint Halloween edition—as you can see ........... it's getting spookier around here ! #itshappeningatheihub #halloween #sipandpaint
