** Why our male allies are vital in the conversation around gender equality in construction ** 👷🚧 Women in Property would like to take a moment to thank our male allies. Male allies can help amplify our message by being a voice for women, challenging stereotypes and driving inclusivity in spaces where they might otherwise be overlooked. We are grateful to have a number of senior men in the industry that help us challenge harmful gender stereotypes, behaviours, and social norms, helping to shift societal attitudes toward more equitable treatment of all genders. We would love if you could take a moment to ask yourself the questions: 💭 Do you advocate for policies, workplace practices, and social systems that promote gender equality, such as equal pay, parental leave? 💭Do men in your organisation feel encouraged to share the parental responsibilities more equally with their partners through extended parental leave and part time working? 💭Do you serve as a role model for other men, demonstrating that supporting gender equality is not only the right thing to do but also a positive, empowering choice for everyone. 💭Do you participate in conversations about gender equality? Our male allies help normalise these discussions and encourage other men to engage, promote and reduce the stigma around addressing gender issues. Our Chair Laura McGuigan sat down with Stephen Osborne of Wallace Whittle, a key WiP male ally to hear his views… This is first in a series of highlighting our male allies support across the industry, so if you are interested in getting involved please comment below or contact Laura directly. #AspireSucceedInspire

✨Incoming Central Scotland Junior Vice Chair: Claire Cockburn ✨ We are pleased to welcome Claire Cockburn, Senior Architect at Purcell as Junior Vice Chair of Women in Property Central Scotland. She tells us what Women in Property and her new role within the committee means to her: “I have been a member of the Women in Property Central Scotland committee for over six years now, taking on a number of different roles. In that time, I have enjoyed experiencing all the different elements that Women in Property membership offers; mentoring, student outreach, cpd and networking. I am currently the Branch Mentoring Ambassador, but I also help organise events and support the growth and direction of the branch. The WiP community is a fantastic network, and I have made some great connections and friends through it. I am someone who is generally quite comfortable sitting in the background, keen to be involved but happy to stay out of the spotlight. So, taking on the role of Junior Vice Chair is a big step up for me and significantly out of my comfort zone! But I have found Women in Property to be such a supportive community and have been encouraged by many to take on this role, particularly former Chair Jillian Love, along with her theme of empowerment, which clearly had an impact on me 🙂 I’m incredibly grateful for the support from within the membership and committee, and also Purcell, as I take on this new role. I am looking forward to supporting Laura McGuigan as Chair and Danielle Miller as Vice Chair and am excited about our plans for the year ahead! Please reach out if you would like to learn more or get involved: claire.cockburn@purcelluk.com” #AspireSucceedInspire

✨ Incoming Central Scotland Vice-Chair : Danielle Miller ✨ We are delighted to welcome Danielle Miller from Built Environment - Smarter Transformation (BE-ST) as the new Vice Chair of Women in Property Central Scotland! As Danielle steps into this role, we asked what being part of Women in Property means to her and what she hopes to achieve in the year ahead, “Since joining the committee three years ago, I have gained so much knowledge, support, and confidence. Being new to the construction sector five years ago, I remember the daunting feeling of being the newbie. Like Women in Property has done for me, I hope to welcome newcomers, offer guidance based on my own experience and continue supporting Central Scotland through our school’s outreach, mentoring, and inclusive events programmes. I’m really looking forward to working closely with our incoming Chair, Laura McGuigan of Kier Construction. Since joining the committee, Laura has been a mentor, a friend, and a true guiding light. Her passion for supporting our members and ensuring they receive the best opportunities throughout the year is inspiring. It’s an honour to work alongside Laura to continue the fantastic progress made by Jillian Love in fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. At BE-ST, we’re committed to driving change by equipping industry professionals with the tools and skills needed to enhance diversity and inclusion. In this role, I hope to contribute to creating a more diverse workforce, breaking down barriers, and inspiring early-career professionals to see property and construction as an exciting and welcoming sector. A huge thank you to Stephen Good and Douglas Morrison for their unwavering support in this journey, this is an incredible opportunity to learn, grow, and support others. The WiP community continues to be a fantastic network of committee members and allies.
