The LG V series of phones came to life back in 2015, the same year the company’s LG G4 flagship was announced. The LG G4 was announced in April 2015, while the LG V10, the first LG V handset, got announced in October. The LG V10 was an experimental phone, kind of, as it was announced with two displays, but with time, the LG V series managed to become quite popular for the company, so LG continued releasing V series smartphones every year, in addition to its G series of devices.
Just to be clear, both the G series and V series devices were being released as the company’s flagships. At first, the differences between the two smartphone series were quite obvious, though with time, they started becoming more similar. Having said that, we’re here to take a look at the entire history of the LG V series smartphones, and it is also worth noting that new phones will be added to this list as they get announced.
LG V10
The LG V10 is the first handset in the V series of smartphones, and it was announced back in October 2015. The phone got released that very same month, and it was kind of experimental device at the time, as it sports two displays. The phone’s main display measures 5.7 inches in size, and it’s a QHD panel. The second display is much smaller, measuring 2.1 inches, and sporting a resolution of 160 x 1040. That second display is basically there for quick access purposes, for apps, toggles, and so on.
The LG V10 came with a frame made out of metal, while its back side is quite grippy. The LG V10 sports rather thin bezels, that was especailly true back in 2015, and the device originally shipped with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box, though Android 7.0 Nougat reached the phone eventually. The device is MIL-STD-810G compliant, in other words, it is shock-resistant and quite sturdy, while it packs in 4GB of RAM, and is fueled by the Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core processor. A single 16-megapixel camera is included on the back of this phone, while a 3,000mAh battery is also included here (+Quick Charge 2.0).
LG V20
The LG V20 was announced in September 2016 almost a full year after the LG V10. Just like its predecessor, this phone also comes with two displays, though unlike the LG V10, it offers a metal unibody build. Display sizes on this phone are identical as on the LG V10, the device arrived with 5.7-inch and 2.1-inch panels. This phone is also MIL-STD-810G compliant, and it launched in both single and dual SIM variants (market-dependent).
The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, while it includes 4GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB of storage. Android 7.0 Nougat comes pre-installed on the phone, along with LG’s custom UI. On the back of the device, LG included 16 and 8-megapixel cameras, which is an upgrade over what the LG V10 has to offer. A 3,200mAh battery is also included in the package, and it supports 18W charging (Quick Charge 3.0).
LG V30
The LG V30 arrived in August 2017, and it was the first LG V series smartphone not to include a secondary display. The LG V30 arrived with a single 6-inch QHD+ P-OLED display, and was the very first smartphone in the series to offer an OLED panel. The device includes considerably thinner bezels than its predecessors, and it also ships with a glass back, which was yet another “first” in the V series of smartphones.
The LG V30 is fueled by the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor, it includes two cameras on the back, and a fingerprint scanner is placed below them. The device is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, while the MIL-STD-810G rating is also a part of the package. LG included a 3,300mAh battery in this phone, along with 18W Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging. Android 7.1.2 Nougat comes pre-installed on the phone, along with LG’s custom UI.
There is yet another phone in the LG V30 series of devices that you may have heard of, the LG V30S ThinQ. This handset arrived in February 2018, and unlike the LG V30, it sports the “ThinQ” branding, it was the very first LG V series smartphone to sport such branding. On top of that, this handset arrived with 6GB of RAM, which is an upgrade over the LG V30’s 4GB of RAM.
LG V35 ThinQ
The LG V35 ThinQ is kind of an in-between phone, it launched in May of 2018, about nine months after the LG V30. This is the second device to sport LG’s “ThinQ” branding, and the phone offers pretty much the same design as the LG V30. The LG V35 ThinQ is more powerful than its predecessor, though, it ships with the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, and includes 6GB of RAM, compared to 4GB on the LG V30.
The LG V35 ThinQ comes with the same display as the LG V30, though, it includes a 6-inch QHD+ P-OLED panel. Android 8.0 Oreo comes pre-installed on the LG V35 ThinQ, along with LG’s UX 6 Android overlay. Two 16-megapixel cameras are included on the back of this phone, and a 3,300mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0, same as on the LG V30. The LG V35 ThinQ is essentially an upgraded variant of the LG V30.
LG V40 ThinQ
The LG V40 ThinQ was announced in October 2018, and is the very first smartphone in the series to sport a display notch. Other than the display notch, it does resemble the LG V30 quite a bit thanks to a similar design language. This phone is also made out of metal and glass, while its back side is curved. Unlike the LG V30, the LG V40 ThinQ includes three cameras on the back, one 16-megapixel and two 12-megapixel cameras.
The LG V40 ThinQ ships with two front-facing cameras, 8 and 5-megapixel ones, while the phone sports a 6.4-inch QHD+ P-OLED display. HDR10 and Dolby Vision support are included here, while the device is fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor. A 3,300mAh battery is also a part of the package, together with Quick Charge 3.0 and 10W wireless charging. Android 8.1 Oreo comes pre-installed on the device, along with LG’s UX 7.1 Android overlay.

LG V50 ThinQ 5G
The LG V50 ThinQ 5G was announced in February 2019, during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, as LG’s very first 5G-enabled handset. The device offers really thin bezels, though a display notch is included as well. This handset is made out of metal and glass, just like its predecessor, and it sports a rear-facing fingerprint scanner.
The LG V50 ThinQ 5G comes with Android 9 Pie out of the box, and LG’s custom UI.
A single 16-megapixel, and two 12-megapixel cameras are included on the back of this phone, while the device offers both stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor fuels the LG V50 ThinQ, while LG included 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage in this device. A 4,000mAh battery is also a part of the package, along with Quick Charge 3.0 and 10W wireless charging.
