Instead of establishing a routine and doing the same thing over and over again... I'd suggest creating a weekly checklist for daily job search action items. At the end of the week, take some time to reflect on what seemed to work/ help you gain traction and what didn't. Then switch up your daily tasks to spend more time on what worked the next week. I also recommend throwing in a wild card - something out of the ordinary that forces you out of your comfort zone... Maybe it's attending an in-person/virtual meetup group (you should be doing this AT LEAST once a month, no exceptions. Networking is KEY.) or maybe you ask someone to review your resume/"mock interview" you. Lastly, get outside and take a walk to help you destress & regain focus.

To build resilience during a prolonged job hunt, focus on self-care and maintaining a positive routine. Set small, achievable goals each day, such as applying to a specific number of jobs or updating your resume, to create a sense of progress. Take regular breaks to recharge, stay connected with supportive friends or mentors, and celebrate small wins to maintain momentum. Shift your mindset by viewing setbacks as learning opportunities, and remember that persistence is key. By focusing on your long-term goals and maintaining a balanced approach, you can stay motivated and focused throughout the process.

During my job hunt, I learned the importance of balance. I took breaks when needed—whether it was a short walk or a day off to recharge. I celebrated every win, no matter how small—like landing an interview or connecting with someone new. When something wasn’t working, I didn’t hesitate to try a fresh approach—updating my resume or reaching out to more connections. Each ‘no’ was just clearing the way for that one ‘YES.’ Staying focused and positive kept me moving forward!

Resilience doesn't matter in your job hunt. Whaaaat? It's not about how long you do something for that will get you the results you are looking for; it's about being strategic, and doing it effectively. Think about it: If you wanted to make your office larger, you could push against the wall for an hour, day, week, month, year, decade, century or millennium, it wouldn't make a difference. Instead, you could run to The Home Depot, rent or buy the RIGHT tools, learn how to use them safely and effectively (if you don't know yet), and get the job done in a fraction of the time. Alternatively, you could call a contractor, get an estimate, and decide whether it's better to have someone else do it for you so you don't have to.

If you feel unmotivated in your job search, it's likely because you aren't being INTENTIONAL with your efforts. If you're going to sit down for an hour and work on your search, for example, you could start with a list of companies that you are targeting and do a quick search to see if any of them have a new role posted. Or, you can do a keyword search for new roles but stop as soon as you find one that you're excited about. Then, spend the remaining time you have set aside for "working on your job search" on that one single role. Do aggressive networking to see if you can find connections at that company to spark up a conversation with. If you invest time into CONVERSATIONS, it will feel much more motivating.
