    When working with Kline May, the ultimate goal was to maintain and exalt their independent brokerage status by not just making it look better, but by honoring “sense of place” at the very core of their identity. Everything we created was inspired by their surroundings. The color, topographic system, and monogram celebrate where they sit in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah Valley. The team was incredibly proud of their home and we worked to integrate their location's DNA into every possible brand touch point. One of the proudest contributions to this project, were the developer-programmed (and then manually red-drawn) topographic lines. This huge lift was worth the effort, because it left the Kline May team with entirely unique and propriety art that would only ever represent them and their brand.     I was lucky to spend a few days last week with the bright minds and good people of 1000WATT and the 450+ supporters who trusted the team to pull off the first-ever Brand and Marketing Summit for the housing industry. I've known and respected 1000watt founders Brian Boero and Marc Davison for more than a decade and jumped at their invitation to share my career journey as a brand builder and storyteller with an audience of agents, brokers, startup founders, and other professionals who populate this amazing industry. I shared my perspective on how brand positioning is a key foundational element of every great business success story — including the steps we are taking at NAF to bring our customer commitment to life — and why storytelling has been diluted as a "skill" in marketing, yet how important it truly is to building strong, valued brands. A bonus was sharing the stage at Gilley's with my former colleague Amit Kulkarni, as well as the mechanical bull featured in Urban Cowboy. I guarantee that next year's summit will be double the fun, double the people and hopefully in a cooler place than Dallas in late-June. 😎

    Latter & Blum was founded in 1916. The Merrick family bought the firm in 1986 and subsequently acquired other, smaller, brokerages across the state of Louisiana. It was time to unify these companies under one brand. Our task: create a visual identity and campaign that would preserve a brand beloved in New Orleans, but would also be embraced by agents and consumers across a proudly diverse state rooted in regional identity. Louisiana is rich in culture, diversity and regional pride. The new visual identity system had to reflect that. We drew from the regional flags we saw as we traversed the state; re-interpreted the fleur-de-lis we saw throughout New Orleans; developed a color palette at once vibrant and elegant. We formed these things into a system, capped by a new logo, that could carry the brand statewide for years to come.     Hasson Company was at a crossroads. With a legendary founder, a strong market position and top producing agents, they could continue doing what had always worked. Or, they could acknowledge an increasingly competitive landscape and fortify their brand for the future. They chose the latter. After we established the brand strategy and story we got to work on a visual system worthy of the compelling company it represented. We anchored the visual approach in the idea that the brand should act as a mirror to the Pacific Northwest, reflecting the beautiful contrasts that exist here. From coastal landscapes and high desert vistas to suburban and urban environments, the brand needed to exist in and reflect a diverse geography.
