Earlier this month the advocacy organization 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now published a nationwide survey of 20,000 parents, including over 300 in DC. We’re proud to see that DC parents reported the highest state participation in tutoring (see page 28). However, there remains a large gap between middle/high-income DC parents and low-income DC parents, which we will continue to address by offering and promoting high-impact tutoring throughout our city. One of our clients at Penn Lincoln Strategies's clients 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now, just released an extensive survey of over 20K parents (400 in CT). It had many significant takeaways but the one I was most taken with was this: "We found that students doing well inside the classroom are much more likely to have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom. For instance, two-thirds (66%) of those whose parents report they get all A’s participate in organized sports, compared to just four-in-10 (40%) who get mostly C’s and D’s, and only a quarter (24%) who get D’s and F’s." Another reason to keep your kids active. It's a great crossover to the work ACTIVE CITY INC is doing (where I serve as the President of the board) and why we continue to strive to remove the barriers for kids to access sports and other activities. Check us out and also the work that Steve Boyle is doing at 2-4-1 Sports to connect kids with sports.

The Foundation for Florida's Future partnered with 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now to find out what Florida parents think about several education issues in the Sunshine State. Among the findings: 🏫 While parents feel they have ample school choice in Florida, there are differences in how parents responded depending on their income level, and nationally, depending on the type of school their child attends. 🏈 Participation in out-of-school activities presents an opportunity for closing gaps between low-income and middle- to high-income families. Low-income respondents with school-aged children report being less likely to participate in after-school activities, organized sports and the arts than middle- to high-income respondents. ⚙ Parents have higher confidence in Florida’s college and career preparation than the national average. Still, a majority of respondents are not confident in the preparation provided, especially low-income respondents. https://lnkd.in/g9EHG2BW
