Thank you to the New America Alliance for hosting an amazing event in #MexicoCity last week! Act One was happy to be a sponsor for such a prestigious international symposium bringing together #LPs from the U.S. and LATAM. Alejandro Guerrero had the pleasure of interviewing Carmen Sierra, the treasurer for the City of Hartford who is the first Latina to serve in this elected position. He was also interviewed by Sylvester McClearn, Director of Emerging Manager Program for the NEW YORK STATE COMMON RETIREMENT FUND, and had the opportunity to share his own personal journey from #founder to #VC and the many successes he's enjoyed with Act One.

Join us in congratulating Alejandro Guerrero on this incredible award!
How does a first-generation Mexican-American rise to reshape the VC landscape? For Alejandro Guerrero, it’s been a journey fueled by grit, heart, and an unwavering belief in opening doors for those who come after him. This year, VCFamilia is proud to honor him with the Catalyst Award, recognizing the trail he's blazing for the Latine community in venture capital. Alejandro’s story is one many of us can relate to. Born and raised in San Diego, he was the first in his family to graduate from college, earning his degree from UCLA. Without the networks or access that others may take for granted, Alejandro pursued his goals with determination. Instead of waiting for opportunities, he created his own path—starting companies, learning through experience, and making it his mission to open doors for others like him. Today, Alejandro is the Co-Founder and General Partner at Act One Ventures, a Los Angeles-based seed fund investing in business software startups, currently managing $147 million in AUM. The firm has invested in more than 60 companies, 70% of which were founded by women or minorities. Alejandro isn't just talking about diversity—he's making it happen. In 2020, following the murder of George Floyd, Alejandro introduced the Diversity Rider for Representation at the Cap Table, a groundbreaking initiative ensuring diverse co-investors have a chance to participate in venture deals. The rider, adopted by major firms like Greycroft Partners, Harlem Capital Partners, and Precursor Ventures, has become a beacon of change in an industry long criticized for its lack of inclusivity. His work isn’t just about numbers or deals; it’s about bringing people in. For the founders he backs and for our community, Alejandro isn’t just an investor—he’s a partner, a mentor, and someone who believes in the potential of others. For him, success means creating a space where founders and investors from underrepresented communities can thrive—ensuring that the next generation doesn’t have to face the same barriers he did. On October 14, VCFamilia will proudly honor Alejandro for all that he’s accomplished and for the legacy he’s building for Latine entrepreneurs. Join us as we celebrate Alejandro, along with our Rising Star and Legacy Award winners, at the VCFamilia Awards! A massive thank you to Bank of America and Patricia Pacheco de Baez, MBA for hosting our Annual General Meeting on Sept 10 in New York City! It was our first outside L.A. and we are grateful to all those who attended and helped make it such a great event. We also moderated two panels -- one for LPs and one for founders -- and would like to thank those who participated: Hilary Gosher, Dawn Powell, and James Reid on the LP side; and Anastasia Sartan, Luis Loaiza, and Carlos N. Escutia on the founder side.

We've closed our 3rd fund at 3x our previous funds!
My partner Michael Silton and I are humbled to share the closing of Act One Ventures Fund III this past December with $73mm in committed capital, 3X the size of our prior fund. This fund took us three brutal years to raise. I was caretaker for my father Alfredo Guerrero Alarcon as he battled cancer in 2021, and then passed away in 2022 at the age of 75. I know how proud he was of me then, and I can feel how proud he is of me now; we've broken those generational curses. Thank you so very much to all of our LPs who came back to support us, and to the new ones who are now also part of our familia. It means the world that you came into this fund at this critical moment in our firm's life. If you know us, you know that everyday for us is always about the founders. A big thank you to our current founders who've allowed us to be a small part of their journeys. We are looking forward to investing in more exciting teams building outstanding business software solutions for an ever changing world.
