The Activate Fellowship welcomes the participation of foreign nationals as long as they are authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of the two-year fellowship. Applications open on September 4th for Cohort 2025. Foreign national applicants must obtain a visa by June 1, 2025 in order to participate as an Activate Fellow in Cohort 2025. #BecomeAnActivateFellow We understand that this can be a challenge, and that there are different types of visas and ways to obtain one as part of this process. This panel discussion with current and alumni Activate Fellows will provide information regarding different pathways to obtaining a visa and highlight each fellow’s journey to obtaining a visa in order to participate in the Activate Fellowship. The aim of the panel is to: - Support foreign national applicants through the application and selection process - Present various pathways of obtaining a visa in order to participate as an Activate Fellow - Hear from current and alumni Activate Fellows who have been through the experience of obtaining a visa - Get general fellowship questions answered during a brief Q&A For more information about the fellowship and this year's application process and to sign up for application updates, visit https://lnkd.in/gXqS7Sy.

Today we had the incredible opportunity to showcase Found Energy's aluminum-thermal power technology to Mayor Michelle Wu in front of Boston City Hall! We demonstrated our clean aluminum fuel and discussed how our power systems today use difficult-to-recycle aluminum to decarbonize heavy industry, all while improving aluminum circularity and reducing waste. As a rapidly growing local company, it was encouraging to see Mayor Michelle Wu’s support of the Boston climate tech scene! Thank you to Schneider Electric, the City of Boston, Downtown Boston BID, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, and NECEC for an incredible inaugural Clean Tech on the Plaza! #ClimateTech #BostonEvents #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #Innovation #TechForGood #NECEC #ClimateTechCity2024

florrent had the honor of hosting Secretary Yvonne Hao, MA State Rep Natalie M. Blais, and representatives from MassVentures, Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED), the Town Of Deerfield, and the Office of Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey at our facilities in South Deerfield last week. Our team gave the group a tour of the florrent production facility and showed how we’re converting waste biomass into a high-value product to address the rapidly growing problem of power quality and reliability issues in grid-connected momentary outage applications with high-energy supercapacitors. We also discussed how fortunate we are to be growing our company in Western Massachusetts, and to have support from our local and state government, along with the quasi-government organizations represented, to do so. florrent is proud to be working in a state and region that have made it clear they want to reduce emissions and be a leader in climate innovation. Thank you to Secretary Hao and the entire group for coming out, and we look forward to our continued work together! #WesternMA #climatetech #innovation #florrent #ThroughPowerWeEmpower #TeamMA Ashley Stolba Paul St. Pierre Kristen Elechko Lily Fitzgerald David Wilson Brooke N Priya Yadav Christopher Dunne Jose LaSalle Alex Nichols Joe Hastry, MSA CPA
florrent, is transforming our clean energy sector with its supercapacitor technology, converting biomass waste into high-performance activated carbon. Their process boosts energy density by over 50%, enhancing power stability for critical infrastructure. Recently, they secured $3.8M in funding from MassVentures to scale production, expand their team, and drive economic development in Western MA. Happy to have them on #TeamMA!

We are very pleased to announce the closing of our US$6.6M seed investment round. Voyager Ventures and TOMORROW (part of Visionaries Club) led the round, with participation from Climate Club. SirenOpt’s investors also include Union Labs Ventures, Skydeck Fund (the investment team from Berkeley SkyDeck) Wireframe Ventures, Impact Science Ventures, Access Industries, Courtyard Ventures, and Climate Capital. SirenOpt will use this new investment to accelerate product development, deliver commercial products to market, scale up commercial operations, and grow our team to support those objectives. SirenOpt’s non-destructive, real-time manufacturing intelligence platform improves factory efficiency for semiconductors, batteries, turbine blades and many other technologies essential to the green transition. Our ability to deliver real-time insights using cold atmospheric plasma and machine learning technologies was first developed by our co-founders Jared O'Leary, Ali Mesbah and Joel Paulson at the Mesbah Lab at the University of California, Berkeley. We are also supported by the startup accelerator programs run by Activate, Berkeley SkyDeck and Cyclotron Road (the latter part of the Berkeley Lab). Our platform will transform materials manufacturing for advanced coatings, thin film materials and nano-scale materials by shedding new light on blind spots, reducing waste, and improving factory ROI. For all the details including statements by SirenOpt CEO Jared O'Leary, Sarah Sclarsic, Founding Partner of Voyager Ventures, and Sebastian Pollok, Founding Partner of TOMORROW, please see the full announcement on our recently updated website: https://lnkd.in/gh_cqji3 You can also read more about SirenOpt on Axios: https://lnkd.in/gB47Fd4K Thanks to our investors for believing in us, and thanks as well to all the customers and collaborators who helped us get to this point.

The Washington Post published an incredible article showcasing the future of geothermal–and it features none other than Activate company Fervo Energy (Tim Latimer and Jack Norbeck, Cohort 2018). Southern California Edison, one of the country's largest power companies, recently announced a deal to buy Fervo’s electricity. Unlike typical fracking for oil and gas, Fervo is tapping into underground heat, which is a clean, abundant resource. This heat will power innovative enhanced geothermal plants. The piece dives into the fascinating world of fracking technology repurposed for clean, sustainable geothermal energy. The visuals alone are worth a look, with stunning interactive graphics that really bring the science to life. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gFVBnSjS
