  • In honor of National Day on Writing, we want to highlight STEM Launch 8th grade students, who wrote an extension of a chapter from the Outsiders. They had a publishing event to share what they were most proud of with the class. Classmates stood by to support them and wrote each other affirmations. Students got to dress on-theme with The Outsiders - as a Greaser or a Soc. They reminded us how fun and engaging writing can be! #whyiwrite #FiveStarProud #ELEVATESuccess

  • October 24th was National Lights on Afterschool Day! In America today, 7.6 million children are alone and unsupervised after school. Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. They provide opportunities to help young people develop into successful adults. Lights On Afterschool was launched in October 2000 with celebrations in 1,200 communities nationwide. The following year 3,600 events took place. Today, more than 8,000 Lights On Afterschool rallies are held annually, attracting 1 million Americans and media coverage nationwide. To celebrate, STEM Launch's Club Innovation students made their own “lights on” circuits with the help of Northglenn High School and CU mentors. The group shared out the ways we appreciate each other and make our community shine bright!💡 #ELEVATESuccess #FiveStarProud

On Saturday, October 26, the Horizon High School marching band made school history at the Colorado Bandmasters Association State Marching Band Championships. With a score of 80.95, Horizon placed 8th overall and earned a spot in the highly competitive state finals competition. This is the second consecutive year that Horizon has qualified for finals—and the first time in school history that they were able to perform, after last year’s finals were cancelled due to weather. This year’s performance score also set a new school record, marking an exciting milestone in the band’s journey. The growth and success of Horizon’s band program reflect the students’ dedication and passion for music, as well as the strong leadership of directors Tim Dailey and Alex Duran. Marching band provides students with a unique opportunity to cultivate essential life skills that extend far beyond music. It fosters a strong sense of community, teaching students how to work effectively as part of a team while also encouraging individual accountability. The discipline required for rehearsals and performances instills a work ethic that benefits students in academics and future endeavors. Through the experience of creating and executing a cohesive performance, students learn resilience in the face of challenges, developing confidence that will serve them well throughout their lives. Congratulations to the students and directors Tim Dailey and Alex Duran for this outstanding achievement! A heartfelt thank-you also goes to the Horizon administration, student body, and community for their unwavering support. This record-breaking season reflects the unity, pride and spirit that make Horizon and the Five Star community truly exceptional. #ELEVATESuccess #FiveStarProud

  • Pathways Multilingual students hosted a vibrant cultural exchange in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Ms. Maria, the grandmother of student Michelle, contributed a delicious traditional holiday dish—Frijoles Charros. Family Outreach Liaison Viviane shared Coquito, a festive Puerto Rican drink, while Daniela, a classroom student, brought ChocoFlan, a beloved Mexican dessert. The event was an eclectic and inclusive potluck, highlighting the rich diversity of Latinx culture at Pathways Future Center. To cap off the celebration, Alejandro impressed everyone with his musical talents, singing and playing acoustic guitar. What began as a classroom activity quickly expanded to welcome all Pathways’ students and staff who wanted to join. #ELEVATESuccess #FiveStarProud
