Get to know Tony Anzic, PMP®, the newest member of the ASC Board of Directors. A decorated US Navy Veteran and Cleveland State University graduate, Tony is currently Executive Director, Location Manager for JPMorganChase (JPMC). In this role, he oversees the bank's largest employee hub, which includes 11 corporate facilities and more than 18,000 employees throughout central Ohio. His professional career has spanned more than 20 years with JPMC where he has held various executive roles within the organization, managing projects, developing initiatives, overseeing teams, and driving collaborations. During his 11 years of service in the Navy, Tony was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal (Active). He continues to demonstrate his belief in service above self through his volunteer work with a variety of community organizations including Homeport, The National Veterans Memorial and Museum, and Music Columbus (Formerly Columbus Music Commission). He also serves as the U.S. Navy Community Ambassador for Ohio. Kim set a new personal record (PR) at our offsite cycling event, and when an athlete sets a PR, we celebrate! Kim Lorenz is one of our most active athletes. She used to only attend events with her son, Brad, but eventually started branching out into other sports and attending them by herself. We have witnessed Kim flourish and redefine who she is throughout her time with ASC. Some improvements are tangible, like setting a new personal record, while others, such as improvements in confidence, happiness, and social connections, are immeasurable but just as visible. Some days hold special memories for us at ASC, and kayaking with Goodwill Columbus was one of those days. Several of Goodwill’s athletes and staff members were initially hesitant to kayak. We witnessed these nervous individuals make a pact to confront their fears and try kayaking together. After just five minutes on the water, their anxiety disappeared and was replaced with joy. We offered two kayaking sessions for Goodwill, and to our surprise and delight, those same individuals – who were once afraid of the water – wanted to go again! This time, they upgraded from a tandem kayak to a single kayak. One athlete was the first person on the water and enjoyed the experience so much that she was the last one to return to the beach. “When can we come back?” was the question of the day, which gave us an opportunity to share information about our programming. The main takeaway from our time with Goodwill was that sometimes the very thing you are afraid to try might end up being one of your favorite things to do. You won’t know until you give it a shot!
