As we enter the second half of 2024, we are reflecting on two great industry recognitions we received earlier this year: we were named to the CB Insights "AI 100" list of the top 100 private AI companies, alongside OpenAI and Databricks and others, and we were selected as honorees in Fast Company's World Changing Ideas 2024 list, where our world changing idea was described as "using AI to design batteries." If you were in Times Square this past week, you may have seen our mission on display to the world, in partnership with our friends at Brex: that generative AI can do way more than just build cool chatbots -- it can actually help us save the planet. We're referring, of course, to all the ways in which gen AI can accelerate science. In our case, gen AI accelerates the process of designing and commercializing new materials for clean energy. The future of battery science is virtual -- are you ready? We are excited to unveil our virtual reality-based battery lab at the ARPA-E Innovation Summit next week in Dallas! This year, Aionics teamed up with NX Design Inc to create an immersive battery design test lab for the Meta Oculus Quest 3. Although this is just a game for now, it reflects our focus at Aionics, Inc. to accelerate R&D in energy materials by making it increasingly virtual with closed-loop AI and simulation capabilities. We envision a future where millions of candidate battery designs are "tested" computationally before the best candidates are ever made and tested in the lab. Aionics' pioneering work in using AI to design batteries is officially a world-changing idea! We are excited to share that Aionics has been selected as an honoree in Fast Company's 2024 World Changing Ideas Awards. This year’s World Changing Ideas Awards showcase 50 winners, 127 finalists, and 172 honorable mentions—with health, education, energy, and AI among the most popular categories. Aionics was selected in the "Small And Mighty: Fewer than 50 Employees" category. “There are two parallel revolutions happening right now,” said Chief Executive Officer Dr. Austin Sendek. “One is the exponential trend in high-performance computing power and efficiency; the other is the exponential trend in AI model performance. At Aionics, we combine these by first using high-performance computing resources to simulate quantum-level phenomena in battery materials, and then using those insights to train AI models to search through the entire corpus of known and hypothetical materials to find the proverbial needle in the haystack.
