Third-year Aviation Management-Airport Administration major, Leadership Studies minor at Hampton University.
This summer, I had my first internship at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, working with the Maryland Aviation Administration as the Executive Office Intern. This experience is one I am forever grateful for, as I was able to learn more about the Aviation industry as a whole and further develop my leadership and professional skills. Some of my projects included starting the process of creating a Chief of Staff newsletter and contributing to the BWI intern cohort's final presentation on employee retention at BWI. I experienced and gained knowledge on airport inspections thanks to BWI Airport Ops and Regional Aviation. I also had the opportunity to attend some great events, such as a Young Professionals Event at the Baltimore Aquarium, meet some great people, such as Pam Beidle, and have great experiences like flying in a Cessna 206! This internship happened in partnership with the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC). I presented my internship reflection final project to AMAC members, my Hampton University aviation professors (Timothy Johnson and Orestes Gooden), my leadership professor (Jarris Louis Taylor, Jr., Ed.D.), and the Dean of the School of Engineering, Architecture, and Aviation at Hampton (Joyce T. Shirazi) Additionally, while working with AMAC, I supported and attended their Annual conference by assisting in auditing sponsorships, registration, setup, and more. This year's AMAC Conference was held in Nashville, Tennessee. At the conference, I was able to expand my network and engage with many airport professionals while learning more about topics such as Innovation Construction Technology through informative sessions I attended. As I close, I must express my gratitude and appreciation to the BWI Executive Office (Diana Léon Brown, MS MBA, Keiva Rodriques), the BWI Human Resources Office (Shakera Harris, MPS, SHRM-CP, Rashawn S.)BWI Airport Ops (Kevin Britto, ACE) Regional Aviation(Sean Hammer, A.A.E., @Stephen Edgin), the AMAC Team (Audria Borders King, D.B.A., Eboni Wimbush, Hadiya Culbreath), all of the Hampton University Alumni I met (Stacey Armstead Jr, MBA, Shaun Harvell, Adia J Pam) and everyone else who made this internship so incredibly special!
