“A journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step,” as the saying goes. Well, last month, Team ACHP collectively took 4,340,988 steps and covered a total of 1,973 miles. We saw leaves at peak-bloom, misty rainbows, waterfalls, more than a few Halloween decorations and plenty of furry animals, both on leashes and out in the wild. Congrats to everyone who kept up the pace throughout #Walktober – we’ve all earned some time on our sofas with our feet up!

Without rate adjustments, nonprofit health plans are facing an “EXISTENTIAL THREAT.” Managed Medicaid plans across several states could incur hundreds of millions in losses due to outdated capitation rates that fail to account for a sicker population and rising medical costs. “Current capitation rates threaten our ability to provide quality care,” said ACHP President and CEO Ceci Connolly. With the recent disenrollment of 25 million beneficiaries, the remaining population is more in need of care than ever. It’s crucial that states update their rates to reflect the realities of the current Medicaid landscape. Failure to do so may force some managed Medicaid plans to exit the market entirely.
