If the answers don’t come easy, it might be time to grab that branded stress ball and walk away. 🔹 GenAI in Legal Workflows: Are We Holding It to an Impossible Standard? 🔹 Steve Goldstein raises a critical point—legal teams have long relied on processes they can’t fully explain, yet when it comes to GenAI, we demand perfection. The reality? AI-driven workflows, when validated and defensible, may be the most justifiable approach we’ve ever had. It's time to stop defending broken systems simply because they’re familiar. The question isn’t “How do we defend AI?”—it’s “How do we justify NOT using it?” 📖 Read Steve’s insightful take and join the conversation. #LegalTech #GenAI #eDiscovery #AIinLaw #LegalInnovation #LitigationSupport #Defensibility #Validation #FutureofLaw https://lnkd.in/gmaPiP5W

Our own Steve Goldstein shares his thoughts on GenAI in legal review: Can AI “think like a lawyer”? Wrong question. We don’t question why TAR assigns a 0.62 relevance score or how CAL prioritizes docs—so why hold GenAI to a different standard? The real question: Does it deliver better, faster, and more defensible results? MARC does—securely, behind the firewall, with clear, explainable, and defensible AI-driven review. AI as an evaluator vs. a creator—how does that change the way we think about trust and risk? 🤔 Rachi Messing breaks it down with a smart framework on AI’s role in legal tech. Check it out and join the conversation! 👇 #AI #LegalTech #eDiscovery
One of the biggest differences I see in how people have been approaching AI tools so far is whether they view them as creators or evaluators—and whether they expect them to learn and adapt or simply process information as-is. These two distinctions shape how we think about trust, accuracy, and risk. AI that evaluates and classifies—like search engines, contract review tools, or eDiscovery platforms—doesn’t hallucinate. It might not always be correct, but it isn’t generating false information. AI that writes and creates—drafting content, summarizing documents, or generating citations—is where hallucination becomes a real issue. Without proper guardrails, it can produce convincing but completely false information. Then there’s the question of whether AI learns or just processes. Some AI adapts based on feedback, while others function more like a super-powered engine, doing exactly what previous tools did—just faster, more efficiently, and with greater flexibility. Here’s how these concepts intersect: Evaluator AI (Low Risk of Hallucination) Learner → A contract review tool that updates its risk scoring based on user defined rules and feedback. Processor → An eDiscovery system that classifies documents based on fixed models and rules—essentially a more advanced version of traditional TAR (technology-assisted review). Creator AI (Higher Risk of Hallucination) Learner → A legal chatbot that refines its responses based on interactions but risks reinforcing errors. Processor → An AI-powered contract clause generator that drafts legal text based on predefined templates and prompts but doesn’t adapt based on prior user feedback—essentially a faster, more flexible version of traditional document automation tools. So the real question is: How do these two AI distinctions—evaluating vs. creating, and learning vs. processing—affect trust, accuracy, and risk? And does one approach give us better results than the other? Would love to hear how others think about this.
