An eight page spread in Vogue Hong Kong for Redress ! Sustainable fashion is the future. It needs to be! Under current projections, the fashion industry is responsible for the same quantity of greenhouse gases per year as the entire economies of France, Germany and the United Kingdom combined. MIND. BLOWING. By 2030, it needs to cut its emissions by 50%, or else it will exceed the 1.5 degree pathway to mitigate climate change. Organisations like Redress, which support the elimination of fashion waste from the design phase, are vital in moving fashion further towards circularity, so we are thrilled that influential publications like Vogue continue to shine a light on their good work year after year.

Another fantastic write up on Eaton HK's oyster upcycling programme, which converts discarded oyster shells into sustainable building materials. What we love about this scheme is that it motivates the community to participate in preserving the planet. Guests at The Astor are asked to separate their oyster shells, and they do so enthusiastically! This demonstrates that consumers want to be a part of the solution, and are motivated to participate in sustainable initiatives. In order for the scheme to succeed, more businesses must sign up to donate their shells. If your business utilises oyster shells, please get in touch! https://lnkd.in/gKQFXtnJ

Now in our third year of working with Redress, an NGO committed to making fashion truly circular, the Redress Design Awards are something we look forward to each September. Whilst a super typhoon threw us a last-minute curve ball, the event was a huge success and we were thrilled that Tiger Chung, a Hong Konger, took home the prize. We've been able to work closely with Tiger on a number of profile pieces and are in awe of their dedication to fashion sustainability, even visiting waste disposal sites in the dead of night to strip leather sofas of their upcyclable material. This piece by Kathryn Giordano, whose commitment to purpose we admire, shares a little of Tiger's story. Enjoy! https://lnkd.in/gZuK3Z4r

More than a year in the making! 🗓 Last week, we celebrated a meaningful step towards sustainability at Eaton HK's press conference for their Oyster Shell Upcycling Pilot Program. 🌍♻️ In collaboration with Green Island Cement 青洲英坭 (GIC), Eaton HK, and The Langham, Hong Kong have upcycled a remarkable nine tonnes of discarded oyster shells into a game-changing building material, reducing landfill waste and marine transport emissions, as well as supporting local ecosystems. Join us on this journey toward a greener future! Eaton HK invites more hotels and restaurants to embrace this sustainable movement. Are you ready to be part of the change? Reach out for more information on how to get involved. 🌍💚 #SustainableHospitality #OysterShellUpcycling #EatonHotel #HongKong
Earlier today, Eaton HK hosted a press conference for its Oyster Shell Upcycling Pilot Program, highlighting the results, vision and environmental benefits of the program that converts discarded oyster shells into a sustainable building material that can be widely used across all scales of building and construction. Since its inception in March 2023, the Oyster Shell Upcycling Pilot Program saw both Eaton HK and The Langham, Hong Kong collect nine tonnes of discarded oyster shells for our program partner Green Island Cement, who then successfully converted them into a limestone alternative. The use of oyster shells in construction lessens the burden on landfills by repurposing a waste product, and reduces the environmental impacts associated with importing limestone as oyster shells can serve as a locally-sourced alternative. Importantly, oysters have a short growing cycle of 4-5 years, compared to the millions of years required for the geological formation of limestone. Eaton HK hopes to invite more hotels and restaurants to participate in this program and divert more discarded oyster shells from landfills through upcycling. For a taste of the program's success, be sure to look forward to launch of The Coastal Garden at Terrible Baby, showcased in a cocktail glass holder made of cement containing the discarded oyster shells. From the same material, Eaton has designed an all-natural, refillable Soy Wax Candle in collaboration with THE BLOMSTRE. A Compendium Cube made from cement will be placed in each hotel room as a paperless alternative to guest information. These two have something very special! We claim no credit for pitching this story into Tatler Asia; that was all Camille Glass! But this interview with her restaurateur partner George Kwok is too cute to not share. Salomé Grouard https://lnkd.in/dA9_UQRD
