About us

The American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) is a professional, non-profit, scientific, and educational organization. AATB is the only national tissue banking organization in the United States, and its membership totals more than 120 accredited tissue banks and over 7,00 individual members. These banks recover tissue from more than 70,000 donors and distribute in excess of 3.3 million allografts for more than 2.5 million tissue transplants performed annually in the US. The overwhelming majority of the human tissue distributed for these transplants comes from AATB-accredited tissue banks.

  • Adriana, a Donate Life Ambassador and recent kidney recipient, is a passionate advocate for organ, eye, and tissue donation. Through sharing her journey, she aims to raise awareness about the importance of donation. Adriana was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease and had been on dialysis since 2015. She was active on the transplant waiting list until 2022, when she received heartbreaking news that her heart function had declined, making her ineligible for a transplant. Undeterred, Adriana set a challenging goal to strengthen her heart. Within a year, she improved her heart health enough to be relisted on the transplant waiting list and received the life-saving call in December 2023. Adriana honors her donor daily and continues to advocate for the cause. 💙💚 #NMDAM2024 #DonateLife Thank you to @DonorNetworkWest for sharing this story!

  • Charlyce was diagnosed with kidney failure at just 16 years old, preventing her from experiencing a typical high school life as she had to undergo dialysis three times a week. Her life changed dramatically when a 17-year-old registered donor, Morgan, generously donated a kidney, allowing Charlyce to live a fuller life. Since her transplant, singer-songwriter Charlyce has produced numerous albums and books and dedicates much of her time to volunteering with OurLegacy. In 2019, Charlyce's transplanted kidney began to fail, requiring her to resume dialysis. However, in May 2023, she received a second kidney from another generous donor and hasn't looked back since. Charlyce now serves her community through her non-profit work, providing resources, financial support, and assistance to patients with renal failure, their families, and other kidney recipients. 💙💚 #NMDAM2024 #DonateLife

  • Eden was born with biliary atresia and was placed on the national transplant waiting list for a liver at just five months old. After a month on the waitlist, Eden's family reached out online for a living donor, and her cousin, Nadia, volunteered to be tested. She was a match, and in January of this year, both underwent a successful transplant. "Eden is now very healthy and happy, enjoying her life post-transplant! Once unable to eat on her own, sit up, or even leave her hospital room due to the complications of liver disease, she is now meeting all her milestones, loves trying new foods, and is physically strong and active. Nadia has recovered quickly and is back to caring for her own family, working, and advocating for living organ donation!" Eden's family feels they can never thank Nadia enough for her selfless act, which gave Eden the chance to live and thrive. Every day with Eden is a gift they cherish deeply. 💙💚 #NMDAM2024 #DonateLife Learn more about living donation and register your decision to be an organ, eye, and tissue donor at DonateLife.net.
