We live in a polarized time where it can be challenging to engage in a conversation around climate change because people's walls often come up right away. The Honorable Sharon Burke suggests that we bring the topic closer to people's homes if we want to have a more productive conversation about #climate change. While serving at the Pentagon from 2010 to 2014, Assistant Secretary Burke helped lead the military's ongoing efforts to reduce its dependence on petroleum. She is now the founder and president of Ecospherics, a company focused on how a changing natural environment is shaping human #security and how societies in turn are shaping the #environment. 💲 Americans, and many others around the world, are not financially prepared for real climate change risks. It is time that global citizens begin to understand and prepare for these risks. 🏠 As highlighted by CNN “Even though floods have impacted 99% of US counties over the past 28 years, only 4% of homeowners have flood insurance….. and only 37% have renters insurance.” Beyond insurance, investing in adaptation is just as important. “According to a recent study by the US Chamber of Commerce and Allstate, every $1 invested in resilience saves communities $13.
