AMI Consulting Engineers' Adam Marksteiner and Garret Larson joined hundreds of industry leaders last night at Clyde Iron Works for the 5th Annual Better In Our Back Yard (BIOBY) Winter Dinner—a powerful gathering focused on the future of responsible mining. BIOBY is a coalition of industrial professionals dedicated to advocating for “responsible industrial development projects and companies in Northern Minnesota and throughout the country” (source: BIOBY website). They support many companies in the mining, natural gas, and manufacturing industries and their efforts to drive future projects in the region while protecting the nation’s natural beauty and educating young professionals on the benefits of responsible industry. The 5th Annual Winter Dinner aimed to provide businesses in the mining industry and related fields with advice on improving their outreach efforts and offering networking opportunities. The main takeaway was the importance of promoting the laws and processes that ensure mining is done efficiently and sustainably. Notable speeches were delivered throughout the evening; however, highlights of the night were keynote speaker Keaton Turner of Turner Mining Group, along with Duluth's Mayor Roger Reinert and Minnesota Representative Pete Stauber. Turner delivered an impassioned address on the need for industry leaders to advocate for their profession, while Mayor Reinert and Representative Stauber emphasized local mining as beneficial for the state and country, both financially and for national security reasons. Adam and Garret felt the speeches were truly impactful and the evening fostered a sense of shared optimism about the future of mining. AMI is proud to support BIOBY and help promote positive and responsible mining practices in Minnesota and throughout the U.S. These events help AMI better understand the ever developing mining industry, making us more effective in serving this important sector. Thank you, Ryan Sistad for hosting an amazing event! #BetterInOurBackYard #BIOBY #MiningIndustry #Minnesota #Environment #EngineeringExcellence #AMI

One of the best parts about visiting our project sites is seeing our designs come to life and hearing firsthand how they’re making a difference. This summer, we stopped by St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park to check in on the new boat launch—and the feedback from visitors didn’t disappoint! AMI Consulting Engineers proudly designed the new St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park Boat Launch, completed in 2022, with visitor useability at the center of our plans. The three-lane design used existing mooring piers and allows for additions like a fishing pier to be implemented in the future. We focused on enhancing usability with improved scour protection, and harbor and channel dredging, to improve access to the St. Croix River. Additionally, we designed an ADA-compliant walkway and upgraded parking facilities to make visits easier and more convenient for everyone. We’re honored to have contributed to making this boat launch a standout feature. Our design ensures a user-friendly, accessible boat launch, ready for your fishing gear and watercraft as soon as the warm weather arrives. From boating to fishing, the new facilities are here to make your spring and summer filled with fun and relaxation. #AMIengineers #StCroixBluffs #BoatLaunch #StateParks #Testimonial #ParkImprovements #EngineeringExcellence #MN

In 2018, the fall and early winter season on Lake Superior proved to be as unpredictable as ever. The extreme storm events of 2017 and 2018 caused significant damage along the shores of Lake Superior, impacting areas such as Canal Park, Lakewalk, and much of the Minnesota and Wisconsin coastlines. AMI was chosen to lead the design, stabilization, and recovery efforts for the regions most affected by these storms. AMI’s team of coastal, marine, and civil engineering experts developed enhanced resiliency measures to safeguard against future storm impacts. They employed a combination of hard and soft shoreline protection systems, while also creating new pedestrian and bike trails, and improving public access to the shoreline. On November 10th, 2022, AMI captured a remarkable video of the Duluth Lakewalk during an active storm, showcasing how their resilient design is effectively protecting Minnesota’s infrastructure for future generations. Exciting Developments for Cloquet: Solem Hotel’s New Transformation Begins! We’re thrilled to announce that the old and dilapidated Solem Hotel is entering a new chapter, soon to be transformed into a modern apartment complex— Thanks to new 3D scanning technology, our team at AMI has been able to expedite the design and rehabilitation process for this unique project. Approved by the Cloquet City Council in April, this project will create much-needed modern market rate housing. The main objectives for this project, the adaptive reuse and restoration of an iconic Cloquet structure, included correcting major structural flaws, removing environmental hazards and renovating the space into modern and energy efficient housing. The project will include 18 modern and spacious apartments, along with a fitness room, storage, and communal space. Adaptive reuse, or adaptive re-use architecture, is the process of repurposing buildings that have outlived their original purposes for different uses or functions while at the same time retaining their historic features. AMI utilized cutting-edge 3D scanning technology to capture the existing interior and exterior dimensions. This data collection process provides our engineers with a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the building’s existing structure, allowing for informed design decisions on load path and allows for accurate planning for the future apartment layouts. Why 3D Scanning Makes a Difference: - Optimized Space Utilization - Enhanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) - Minimized Errors - Simplified Complex Installations - Predictive Maintenance Planning - Future-Proof Designs The photos and 3D models featured here showcase the starting point of this exciting project and the advanced technology that powers our design solutions. Stay tuned for more updates as we begin this journey of adaptive reuse! #AMIConsultingEngineers #CloquetLiving #AdaptiveReuseArchitecture #ModernApartments #3DScanningTech #HistoricBuilding #UrbanDevelopment #FutureProofing
