Join us in Boston for the REACH Staffing Masterclass in September. If you're in the New England or Northeast region you should definitely make this an excuse to come out to Boston. I'll be speaking at the event with my esteemed colleagues Patrick Morin, Dan Quigg, and Ron Walters. I'm also based here in Back Bay, Boston -- maybe the most beautiful neighborhood in the US (I'm biased!), especially if you like Victorian architecture -- so if you want to meet up before or after the event, let me know!

There are several vendors offering EOR, AOR, and PEO solutions for staffing agencies. Here's how to tell them apart. 1. Employer of Record (EOR): • Acts as legal employer • Handles payroll, taxes, insurance, benefits • Ideal for rapid expansion without legal entity setup 2. Agent of Record (AOR): • Manages independent contractors • Ensures compliance, handles invoices and payments • Mitigates compliance risks 3. Professional Employer Organization (PEO): • Co-employment agreement (not full employer of record, so you have risk of compliance like wage and hour laws) • Provides HR support, payroll, some insurance • Offers HR expertise and core function support When choosing, consider: • Workforce size • Legal entity presence • In-house compliance capabilities • Risk tolerance • Long-term projections and costs

Helping UK recruitment agencies access the US market with ease

What effects will the US election have on Workers Comp, SUI, FUI? The short answer is, it's very hard to predict. What does that mean for agencies recruiting W-2 contractors in the USA? It means you wont know how much your contract placements will be worth this time next year due the the fluctuating cost of employment. What is the solution? Finding an Employer of Record that has a proven track record of keeping consistent pricing even when the cost of employing temps / contractors is ever changing. Know anyone? 🤔

In our next installment of Ascen's Across the Pond series, we sat down with Stewart Roberts, Managing Director at MAYACHI Ltd. Stewart has many years of experience helping recruitment agencies with their finances. He has some timeless advice for recruitment agencies and is definitely worth a read if you are a staffing agency owner in any country, whether expanding within the US or not. Here are my main takeaways for recruitment agency leaders from the talk: 1. Focus on Your Strengths If you are running a recruitment agency, concentrate on making placements and managing your team. Outsource back-office and accounting tasks to specialists to save time and reduce distractions. 2. Plan for Financial Growth Think about your financial strategy from day one. Understand your numbers, plan for growth, and set up proper financial structures to prepare for potential M&A in the future. 3. Choose the Right Financing If you are funding contractor placements, consider your options between pay-and-bill solutions and invoice finance. Smaller agencies may benefit from pay-and-bill, while larger agencies can save significantly with invoice finance. 4. Expanding to the US If you are a UK recruitment agency looking to expand into the US, start by making placements from your UK base. Understand local tax and payroll regulations and work with advisors to navigate the complexities of the US market. Enjoy!
